Serenity understood why her mother-in-law pretended not to recognize her and didn’t take it personally.
After returning to her parking spot, she unlocked her car and placed the clothes she had bought for Zachary on the passenger seat before driving away.
A short time later, she arrived at Brynfield. Zachary had not yet returned, so she decided to tend to her small garden on the balcony.
The roses were blooming profusely, so she grabbed a pair of scissors to cut a few. However, reluctant to discard them, she brought them inside to trim and arrange them in a vase.
Ring ring ring…
Her cell phone rang.
It was her neighbor from the store. Since it was inconvenient to take her pets with her while shopping for Zachary’s clothes, she had asked the neighbor to look after them.
“Mr. Charles, I’m so sorry. I completely forgot. I’ll come over to pick them up now.”
Serenity would have overlooked the pets if she hadn’t received the call.
She was quite busy and had only recently started caring for pets, so she hadn’t yet adjusted to having a dog and two cats.
“I’ve brought the pets to the entrance of your neighborhood. You can just come out and fetch them from here,” Mr. Charles informed her.
“I figured you forgot about them since you hadn’t returned to pick them up for so long. I had nothing else to do, so I brought them to you,” he added.
Mr. Charles was the neighbor who believed he was skilled at reading faces after studying a few books on the subject. He thought Serenity had a face that suggested wealth and that she was someone who would endure hardships before achieving a smooth life. He believed that in the future, she would no longer be part of their social circle.

In front of Wiltspoon School, a small store had always been a trouble-free zone for Serenity and the others. In his view, Jasmine was also bound for a life of luxury.
Given the Sox family’s current wealth, Jasmine was already regarded as affluent.
“I’ll be right out,” Serenity said, feeling both grateful and embarrassed.
After quickly responding, she hung up the phone and dashed outside.

It was only after shutting the door that she realized she had forgotten her house keys in her rush to pick up her pets.
“Oh no, I won’t be able to get into the house later.”
She glanced at the time. “It’s already nine o’clock. I’ll call Zachary later to find out when he finishes work. If he’s working late, I’ll take a cab with the pets and get the keys from him.”
Serenity hurried to the entrance of the neighborhood and found Charles holding her dog and carrying the cat carrier.
“Mr. Charles,” she called out, walking over with an embarrassed smile. “I’m so sorry for making you come all the way here.”
Charles smiled and handed her the leash and cat carrier. “It’s no trouble at all. I had nothing else to do, so it’s no harm done.”
“Thank you, Mr. Charles.”
“You’re welcome. Well, I’ll head back now.” Charles preferred not to linger.
