Chapter 326
Chapter 326: “A Surprise for You.”
Zachary picked up the bag and examined it. “More clothes?”
He pulled out the garments and inspected them. This time, she had been much more generous; all the items were from well-known brands.
“I don’t have much experience giving gifts to men, so I can’t create a big surprise. Small surprises are all I can manage. The clothes I gave you last time weren’t expensive—just around a thousand dollars for each set. But this time, I’ve bought you something branded, with each set costing over ten thousand dollars.”
“Wearing them feels like being adorned in luxury. Isn’t that a surprise? Even at my age, I could never bring myself to wear such costly clothes.”
Zachary smiled. “Given your personality and financial situation, it’s indeed surprising that you’re willing to buy such expensive clothes for me.”
The new sets were significantly better than the clothes she had gifted him previously.
Yes, it was a delightful surprise. “Thank you for helping my sister gather evidence of Hank’s infidelity.”
“Don’t mention it. Your sister is like my sister. It’s only natural for me to assist her. Yet, you’ve gone out of your way to give me clothes as a thank-you gift.”
It made sense why she suddenly bought clothes for him again; it was a gesture of gratitude for his assistance.
She treated him with utmost respect and didn’t view him as family. If he helped her, she felt compelled to repay him in other ways, as she didn’t want to owe him a favor.
Zachary was torn between laughter and sadness upon realizing this.
If she had acted this way shortly after they obtained their marriage license, he would have thought she was being tactful.
However, now he sensed a distance; she wasn’t allowing him into her world.
Still, he couldn’t fault her.
He was the one who had asked her to sign the
agreement.
“My sister always reminds me to treat you with more kindness. Since I bought you some new clothes, you have to put in a good word for me the next time she brings it up.”
Zachary couldn’t help but laugh. “Sure! If I run into your sister in the future, I’ll tell her that everything I wear was purchased by you. If you get me underwear as well, I can say my entire outfit, from head to toe, was provided by you.”
“Do you need underwear? What color do you prefer? I’ve already bought you suits that cost more than ten thousand each, so I wouldn’t mind picking you up a few sets of underwear.”
Zachary was left speechless.
“Are you too embarrassed to tell me? That’s fine. If you let me look in your closet, I’ll figure out your favorite type—uh, I mean color.”
Zachary chose to remain silent.
Seeing her curiosity, he understood she was eager to know everything about his room.
They had been married for a while, but he hadn’t allowed her into his space, so it was natural for her to be curious.
“Any color is fine as long as it’s not red,” Zachary replied, wanting to avoid her insistence on knowing what color underwear he wore.
“Oh, okay! I’ll go shopping again when I have some free time and buy you underwear in various colors. That way, you can wear a different one every day.”
Zachary’s mouth twitched.
No one could see what kind of underwear he wore anyway.
So what was the point of wearing different colors each day?
Serenity changed the subject, turning her attention to teasing the pets.
She also didn’t mention her encounter with her mother-in-law near the shop to Zachary.
Though Serenity kept quiet about it, Tania felt uneasy and eventually called her eldest son to ask a few vague questions. Zachary was puzzled and couldn’t understand what his
Mother was attempting to inquire. However, Tania recognized from her son’s reactions that Serenity had not spoken negatively about her to him. Her face flushed with shame at her own unfounded doubts.
