Chapter 3522
“I understand. Our family’s fame comes with its own set of challenges,” the elderly woman said, gently patting the back of Camryn’s hand in sympathy.
Camryn smiled and responded, “Grandma, I was referring to the past. Now, I feel no pressure or sense of inferiority. Previously, I believed I was lucky that Callum chose me. Now, I recognize that I possess qualities that caught your attention and led you to match me with Callum. You simply set a goal for him. His choice to pursue me, get to know me, and develop feelings for me was entirely his decision. Over the past year, I have learned to trust in his genuine love for me.
I’ve regained my confidence, not only because I can see again but also because I believe I am deserving of Callum. Yes, there is still a considerable gap between us, beginning with our academic qualifications. I fell into darkness at sixteen, unable to finish high school for ten years, let alone attend college. However, I refuse to stop here. After the New Year, I intend to enroll in further studies. With dedication, I can earn a university degree.”
Camryn paused before continuing, “To wear the crown, we must be willing to bear its weight. Since I chose to marry Callum, I must be ready to face any slander and pressure. I can handle it.
As for children, Callum understands my physical condition. He has suggested that we spend two years together before rushing into starting a family, even though he desires children. Since he is willing to wait, I will take my medication and make the necessary adjustments to my health.
Moreover, the decision to have children is between my husband and me. It does not concern outsiders. I am not having children for their sake, and they will not be involved in raising them. So why should I be concerned about what others think? As long as Callum is willing to wait, he is my husband, and we will share our lives together.
“If he doesn’t mind, why should I?” Camryn thought to herself. She believed she had a greater capacity to handle pressure than Serenity, having been blind for ten years and enduring more slander than Serenity had faced.
Zachary was strong and assertive enough to shield Serenity from most of the negative remarks. Although slanders circulated, very few reached Serenity’s ears.
Even Tania’s family was anxious. The matriarch of the Reading family suggested an infertility treatment to Tania. With Zachary’s presence, the Reading family dared not speak ill of Serenity.
Tania, too, wore a cautious smile around Serenity, wary of adding any pressure regarding having children.
Serenity persevered. Now pregnant, she enjoyed the status of a national treasure within the York family, patiently awaiting clearer skies and brighter days.
Camryn believed she could also wait for the clouds to disperse and the moon to shine in two or three years.
The old lady regarded Camryn with love and admiration; indeed, Camryn was the granddaughter-in-law she had chosen.
She said warmly, “Camryn, I’m so happy and relieved that you feel this way. You are right to think like this. You shouldn’t worry about what others say. As long as Callum has no objections, you can have children whenever you wish. Even at my age, there are still those who slander me behind my back, claiming that I’m overbearing and authoritarian, controlling my grandchildren’s marriages and denying them the right to choose their own partners.”
