“Kathryn, we’re family,” Marco said.
“You’ve never treated me like family,” Kathryn replied coldly. “In your eyes, the only daughter and sister you have is Shiloh. Let’s not pretend otherwise.”
She continued, “Dad, there’s no need to play the loving father now. You might be able to take on that role, but I can’t. Since my return, I’ve seen how you truly feel about me.”
When Shiloh was alive, Holden had attempted to arrange a marriage for Kathryn, but the man he chose was merely another spoiled rich kid. If he truly cared for her, how could he set her up with someone like that?

Kathryn asked, “Did Mom send you to get rid of Pedro? Without him by my side, does she plan to control me or drug me again?”

It’s not that I don’t want to support her, but I can’t convince myself to stand by her unconditionally. If I had grown up with her, maybe I would’ve been like Shiloh, following her blindly. “I don’t agree with what Mom is doing,” Kathryn said firmly.
Marco smiled awkwardly and replied, “Kathryn, no matter what happens, we’re your real family. We share the same blood. Family is what truly matters. People can be selfish. If you don’t look out for yourself, no one else will.”
Kathryn stood her ground. “Brother, I’m not a child. I know what I should and shouldn’t do. Don’t try to change my mind. If Mom really intends to take Pedro away from me, she might as well kick me out of the Farrell family too. I’m not interested in staying.”
Marco was left speechless.
At that moment, Kathryn’s phone rang. Noticing it was Clarissa, she took a deep breath and answered.
“Your father and brother couldn’t persuade you,” Clarissa said calmly, understanding that her sons would likely fail in the task she had assigned them.
“Mom, you once told me that once Pedro came to me, he was mine for life. He belongs to me, and I won’t let him go!” Kathryn declared with determination. If Clarissa wanted to separate her from Pedro, then she wouldn’t accept being the successor of the Farrell family. How could she lead the family if she couldn’t even make her own decisions? To be the successor, she needed to have complete control.
