Chapter 3557
After a brief pause, Clarissa continued, “Kathryn is the future leader, the next version of me. She has the responsibility to ensure the next generation of heirs. If she doesn’t invite a man into her life, how will she have a daughter?”
Kathryn had mentioned that she could find a man for casual encounters a few times, then have a child once she becomes pregnant and gives birth to a daughter. She believes there is no need to marry or invite a man into her home.
The father would be absent, and the daughter would remain with her.
Young people today have very different views compared to our generation.
Despite being the head of the family, Clarissa still believed that women should marry or welcome a husband into their homes.
She was not as open-minded as Kathryn.
Clarissa was worried about Kathryn’s approach to marriage. Pedro didn’t know how to respond, so he listened quietly.
“Pedro, since leaving the base, have you searched for your relatives? Have you explored your own background?”
Clarissa suddenly shifted the conversation to Pedro.
Pedro cautiously replied, “Madam, those of us sent to the base were all orphans, with no family. I haven’t looked into my background, and there’s no need to. Anyone who entered the base had no living relatives. Even if they did, they were likely distant.”
It’s better not to seek out those distant relatives.
Pedro hadn’t investigated his past, nor had he sought any distant relatives. He didn’t even remember where he came from, so how could he search for them?
When he was selected for the base at around five or six years old, he was an orphan, with both parents gone and no siblings. He had no idea if his parents had any relatives. He only remembered that the boss of the base noticed him in the Fox Courtyard and took him from the orphanage to the base.
He assumed the boss must have done some research to confirm he…
had no family connections before choosing him.
After a brief silence, Clari responded, “That’s true. You were all very young when you joined the base, all orphans, and you don’t have many memories of your past. Have you ever considered getting married?”
Pedro replied earnestly, “Madam, we aren’t permitted to marry, have children, or form romantic attachments unless it’s with someone who would remain loyal to us for life.”
The only person he could love was Kathryn; he couldn’t envision falling for anyone else. Fortunately, he had no interest in others. Knowing he could only love someone who would be loyal to him for life, Kathryn was the sole occupant of his heart and mind.
Clarissa regarded him for a moment, “You are certainly a good person, not too old, and a suitable match for Kathryn. You’re an orphan without parents or siblings. If Kathryn is with you, she won’t have to navigate the complexities of in-laws. Given her personality, she might be too impatient and stubborn to manage such relationships effectively.”
Pedro’s dark eyes flickered. “Madam, I am merely the all-around assistant to the young lady, devoted to her for life. I would endure any hardship for her. However, when it comes to matters of the heart, the decision isn’t mine.”
He liked Kathryn, and she had feelings for him as well. Yet in their dynamic, he was there solely to support her, while Kathryn held all the authority.
Kathryn could treat him however she desired.
Clarissa noted that Kathryn only wanted a daughter, not a husband. So, Kathryn might truly just have a physical relationship with Pedro without ever giving him a title.
