The mother and daughter, having not slept all night, were walking in the yard.
Despite the chill in the air, they appeared unaffected by it, discussing family matters rather than feelings of hate or resentment.
In that moment, they were just an ordinary mother and daughter. After walking for a while, Clarissa said to her daughter, “Kathryn, let’s sit down. I’m old and can’t walk any further.”
She led the way to a long stone bench and took a seat, with Kathryn following her lead and sitting beside her.
“It’s almost dawn,” Clarissa remarked, gazing at the sky. “In winter, the nights are long, but in summer, it would already be bright by now.”

She pulled her coat tighter around herself and asked, “Kathryn, are you cold?” Kathryn replied, “Yes, it’s quite chilly out here.” Clarissa reached out to adjust Kathryn’s collar.
“You’re not dressed warmly enough. You should wear a thicker coat. You’re used to being in heated places, so you might not feel it as much.
Without heat, you’ll shiver in this cold. You have such fair skin—young people always have such soft, delicate skin. It’s nice to be young.” As Clarissa brushed her fingers against Kathryn’s neck, the daughter sensed something was amiss and attempted to rise, but it was too late.
A sharp pain pierced the back of her neck, and everything went dark as she lost consciousness. Clarissa caught Kathryn as she fell and then called Mr. Dunn to come and take her away. Mr. Dunn arrived quickly, and Clarissa handed Kathryn over to him.
She instructed, “After taking Kathryn out, hand her over to her bodyguard. Ensure she is taken out of Jensburg and arrange for someone to protect her. We can’t let Pedro harm her while she’s unconscious.
Once she is safely out, notify Pedro so he can locate her. However, wait until just before dusk to inform him—do not let him bring her back to Jensburg.
Clarissa continued, “Kathryn will wake up soon. When she does, ensure someone gives her two sleeping pills so she remains asleep for two days. Otherwise, she will do everything possible to return.”
Clarissa whispered her instructions to Mr. Dunn, who assured her, “Ma’am, I will handle everything. Kathryn’s stand-in is already ready. She will be by your side after dawn and assist you in hosting Audrey tonight.” Clarissa’s expression remained cold.
“They want to uncover the truth and seize the power of the Farrell family. If they won’t allow me to live in peace, then no one will.” Mr. Dunn responded, “Don’t worry, ma’am. I will ensure the young lady is safely sent away.
The stand-in closely resembles Kathryn in body shape, voice, and face. With a bit of makeup, even Kathryn herself would mistake her for a twin.”
Clarissa nodded, feeling satisfied. “Go ahead. I trust you.” Mr. Dunn then carried the unconscious Kathryn away and shortly afterward brought the stand-in into the Farrell family mansion to temporarily take her place.
With the stand-in impersonating Kathryn, when Audrey and the others arrived that night, they would not suspect anything. If Kathryn were present, Audrey and the others would be on high alert.
Clarissa’s true motive behind this plan was to save Kathryn’s life. Kathryn was too stubborn to listen, believing that Clarissa was wrong and should face the consequences.
