Chapter 3656
Chapter 3656
Elora had endured so much since taking charge that she lost faith in the men around her and no longer expected love.
She said, “I’ll have a meal, take a nap, and head back to the company before three. The meeting starts at 3:30, and I want Tinsley to go home early tonight so Auntie won’t complain.”
Mrs. Ormond curled her lips and replied, “She just loves to complain. As her sister-in-law, I have to deal with it. I hardly see you, even though we live under the same roof. So who am I supposed to complain to?”
Mrs. Ormond would wake up early while Elora was already at the company, and by the time Elora returned late at night, her mother would be asleep. As a result, they rarely crossed paths.
Who was Mrs. Ormond truly complaining about?
When Mrs. Ormond married into the family, the men hadn’t achieved much. Therefore, when their daughters became successful, the mothers felt compelled to support them even more.
Mrs. Ormond then added, “Oh, by the way, the Labbe family in Havenmill sent us several invitations to their banquets. Tinsley told us not to bother, so we didn’t go.”
“But Mr. Labbe didn’t give up. He sent another invitation yesterday, inviting us again.”
“He even visited us. Tinsley advised us not to engage with him too much, so when he visits, we greet him politely and send him off the same way. If he asks anything, we just say we’re not the right people to talk to and refer him to you. Mr. Labbe seems nice; I don’t know what he did to upset Tinsley, but she doesn’t like him.”
Elora responded seriously, “What kind of leader is he? The true head of the Labbe family should possess the family totem and token. He has neither. The real leader and his close family members are all deceased. Why is he still around?”
“He’s merely a temporary leader, part of the Labbe family’s elite, but he lacks any real authority. Once the rightful heir returns, everything he’s done will benefit someone else,” Mrs. Ormond said with a frown. “That’s their concern, not ours. However, he is clearly interested in either you or Tinsley. He must be in his forties or fifties, regardless of how well he has aged. Why isn’t he married? What makes him think he can pursue you or Tinsley?”
Elora was still young and had yet to experience love, but that man, Mr. Labbe, had the audacity to have feelings for her. Did he intend to hold onto her or leave his current wife to remarry? Even if he divorced and married her daughter, Mrs. Ormond didn’t believe Labbe was worthy.
Elora exclaimed, “No wonder Tinsley despises him and urges us to ignore him. He’s nothing but a pervert! Our Ormond family is one of the most respected in Annenburg. How dare he insult us? If he shows up again, I’ll have him thrown out and discard every invitation he sends!”
Did he think the Ormond family was an easy target? The daughters of the Ormond family were just as capable as the men and could carry the family name forward. They would not be bullied!
“That man is just a shameless opportunist!” Elora declared, unable to tolerate Mr. Labbe any longer.
