Rosie added, “He’s only a year older than you, so he’s a great match. Plus, he’s from Annenburg.”
The main reason Rosie called was to persuade Elora to attend the high school reunion and to help set her up with their former class monitor. In the past, the class monitor had always shown interest in Elora but never approached her directly. Now that he had achieved success, he felt confident enough to ask Rosie for assistance.
Elora was remarkable, and the class monitor believed he needed to be accomplished in his own right to be worthy of her. Even now, he still felt he didn’t measure up to her in terms of status and wealth.
After pausing for a moment, Elora asked, “What does the class monitor even look like? I don’t remember him.”
During school, many boys liked Elora, but she rarely paid them any attention. She was always serious, with a cold and distant demeanor, which earned her the nickname “ice queen.” This intimidated most boys from approaching her.
With so many admirers, she couldn’t recall their faces. She never considered them the type of men she was interested in, so she didn’t bother to remember them.

didn’t bother to remember them.
Rosie replied, “The class monitor was the most handsome guy in our class. You really don’t remember him? We were in the same class for two years.”
“There were a lot of boys in my class for two years,” Elora said. “How could I remember all of them? I do remember the girls, although I didn’t interact with many. You’re the only one I stayed close with.”
Other girls were either envious of her intelligence, her wealthy background, or her beauty. Because so many boys admired her, she had few friends. It wasn’t her fault; they were simply too jealous to befriend her.
When they sought her help, she always offered advice with kindness, yet they never truly valued it. Initially, she hoped to form closer friendships, but eventually, she resigned herself to the idea that Rosie was sufficient company. While Elora had numerous contacts on WhatsApp, they were primarily business associates. Although some acted as friends, their relationships revolved solely around work. If she couldn’t assist them in achieving their objectives, they would swiftly sever ties. Elora had become adept at seeing through this facade.
“Well, whether you remember him or not doesn’t matter,” Rosie said. “You can always get to know each other again. Are you free on the 26th of the lunar year? We’re all gathering.”
Now inside her home, Elora replied, “I’m not sure yet. There’s a 90% chance I won’t be able to make it. Don’t wait for me.” She assumed she would still be occupied with work and wouldn’t have the time for a high school reunion.
“Miss, your soup is ready,” called Tatum’s gentle voice.
Rosie overheard and asked with curiosity, “Elora, who just called you ‘Miss’? Do you have a new servant? That voice sounds unfamiliar but very pleasant. Is he handsome?”
Elora glanced at Tatum and responded, “That’s my new chef. And Rosie, you’re married!”
Rosie had a penchant for attractive voices; her husband had a smooth voice, and she was enchanted by it.
“You’ve changed chefs again?” Rosie inquired. “It doesn’t matter that I’m married. I just enjoy listening to nice voices. I’ll come over for dinner one of these days.”
Elora was left speechless.
