“It’s futile. There are too many of them. The only way to stop them is for me to perish with them, ensuring they never return,” Clarissa said bitterly. “Mr. Dunn, you’ve been by my side for decades, and I trust you completely. If you survive, seek out Kathryn and let her take the reins. She’s capable.
Once Kathryn establishes herself as matriarch, you are free to go wherever you wish. I’ll set you free.”
Mr. Dunn knew he couldn’t remain with Kathryn, as Pedro was already beside her. However, if he assisted Clarissa in bringing Kathryn back and securing her position, he could retire peacefully—a fitting conclusion to his years of service.
Clarissa continued, “If I die, Holden will fall with me. If not, he may become too arrogant. Kathryn may be his daughter, but I fear he will exploit his status to undermine her. As for my three sons… their fate lies in their own hands.”
Clarissa closed her eyes. She could only save the one who mattered most.
Holden had warned his sons, but they didn’t heed his advice, believing they could escape trouble. Who could they blame but themselves? Holden’s primary concern was his children and grandchildren, as they bore the Janzen name. Clarissa’s priority was Kathryn, who carried her legacy.

“Someone’s coming. That’s all for now,” Clarissa said, ending the call and placing the phone back on the table as though nothing had transpired.
The person who entered was a double for Kathryn.
She resembled Kathryn closely. With a bit of makeup and by mimicking Kathryn’s mannerisms, even Holden and his sons failed to recognize that this was not the real Kathryn.
Holden felt relieved when he saw “Kathryn” still at the mansion and assumed
Clarissa had not made any arrangements for her departure. Believing that Kathryn was safe at home, Holden felt assured their family would remain intact. Nonetheless, he advised his sons to stay close to their sister, even if it meant simply following her. He had a strong sense that if a crisis arose, Clarissa would prioritize saving Kathryn, and by staying nearby, his sons might also be protected.
Marco and his brothers trailed the imposter Kathryn inside. “Mom,” the impostor said casually. Since Kathryn and Clarissa were not particularly close, the greeting couldn’t be overly affectionate.
“Is everything set?” Clarissa asked calmly. “Have the tribe members arrived?”
“Mom,” Marco and his brothers greeted her as they took their seats.
The fake Kathryn replied, “Yes, everything is arranged. Some of the tribe members are still working, some finished early, and others are already home. They’re arriving gradually. A few individuals who were not invited have also shown up, claiming they want to help. We’ll need plenty of good food, and since we’re short on workers, it’s a blessing they came, even if uninvited.”
Clarissa nodded in acknowledgment.
Once the fake Kathryn concluded her response, Marco interjected, “Mom, there are a lot of reporters outside taking pictures of the house. I asked the butler, and we didn’t invite them. I suspect Audrey did. Should we make them leave?”
Even a fool could see that tonight’s dinner was a setup—an intergenerational feud. Why would they invite reporters to witness it? Were they intending to air all the family’s dirty laundry?
“Even uninvited, they came to help.” Clarissa nodded.
As the fake Kathryn finished her response, Mar interjected, “Mom, there are a lot of reporters outside taking pictures of the house. I asked the butler, and we didn’t invite them. I think Audrey did. Should we ask them to leave?”
Even a fool could see that tonight’s dinner was turning into a generational feud. Why would they invite reporters to witness that? Were they planning to publicly air the family’s dirty laundry?
Some things should remain private.
