“You’ll be doing me a favor by accepting it. Help a girl out, will you?” Elisa said with a playful pleading gesture. The Stone family had plenty of money, but Audrey grew up in an orphanage. Despite marrying into a wealthy family decades ago, she remained frugal.
She disliked it when Elisa spent money carelessly. Serenity thought to herself, ‘The rich really are willful!’
Jasmine considered herself quite extravagant when it came to shopping, but compared to a true wealthy lady like Elisa, her spending habits seemed minor, like comparing an ant to an elephant.
“Serenity, who’s that lady?” Elisa asked, noticing Mrs. Lane.
“I hired her to care for Sonny. Jasmine and I are sometimes busy, and I worry that Sonny might run out of the shop, so I brought someone in to look after him. This way, we can both relax.” Serenity felt a heavy responsibility taking care of another person’s child, even if he was her nephew.
She knew she couldn’t afford to be careless with Sonny’s care.
“That’s true.”
Elisa didn’t comment further on Mrs. Lane. Serenity then asked with concern, “Why were you in a bad mood, Ms. Stone?”
“Just call me Elisa. I’m feeling down because I didn’t meet my goal.” Elisa lifted the cup of water that Serenity had poured for her, took a couple of sips, and added, “Mr. York was wearing a wedding ring.”
“Huh?”
Serenity was taken aback.
Even Mrs. Lane looked over in surprise.
She tried to recall seeing Mr. Zachary that morning; she hadn’t noticed a wedding ring on his finger. His hands were completely unadorned, just like Serenity’s.
Jasmine was also in disbelief and asked, “Mr. York is married? I’ve never heard of that. With his status, a wedding would definitely cause a sensation in the city if he were to get married. The—
Reporters in Wiltspoon would eagerly cover the news.” After a brief silence, Elisa sadly remarked, “I didn’t hear about his marriage either, but he was definitely wearing a wedding ring on the ring finger of his left hand. It was so stunning that I couldn’t have been mistaken.”
“That’s…”
Serenity was at a loss for words. She could see that Elisa genuinely loved the heir of the York family. She supported and encouraged Elisa, even sharing tips and tricks to help her pursue her true love.
However, Elisa mentioned that the man was married.
Serenity felt her cheeks flush. She had inadvertently taught Elisa how to be a homewrecker and disrupt someone else’s marriage.
If Mr. York’s wife discovered that she was guiding Elisa in pursuing her husband, she would undoubtedly come after Serenity with a forty-meter-long knife and turn her into minced meat.
Yet, how could it be possible that there was no news of Mr. York’s marriage?
If there had been even a whisper of it, she would never have encouraged Elisa to go after him. “I will never be a mistress. Regardless of whether he is truly married or not, as long as he’s wearing a wedding ring that signifies his marital status, I won’t pursue him!”
