Marco didn’t think much of Pedro. He accepted Pedro as Kathryn’s assistant since it was a decision made by their organization, and they had no control over it. However, he disapproved of the idea of Kathryn being in a relationship with Pedro. In his eyes, Pedro was not good enough for her. As her brother, Marco hoped Kathryn would marry someone influential, someone they could depend on in the future.
Kathryn sat across from her brothers, listening to Marco’s complaints. She calmly asked, “What’s wrong with Pedro? He’s better than all of you. Even though he’s an orphan, he has the skills to succeed on his own if he chooses.
Why shouldn’t I like Pedro? Mom trusted him and even asked him to look out for me. You may doubt my judgment, but do you doubt Mom’s? Besides, this is my decision. I’ve made up my mind—it’s Pedro or no one.”
Even when Clarissa was alive, Kathryn was difficult to control. With her absence, her brothers had even less influence over her.
Kathryn firmly believed that her choice in a partner was hers alone, and no one else had the right to interfere.
“Alright,” Marco finally conceded. “If Mom approved of him, I won’t argue. I just want the best for you. I believe you could find someone better than Pedro, even if I introduced you to someone more accomplished.”
Kathryn responded, “Pedro is loyal and sincere. Those qualities matter more to me than money or power.”
Marco was left speechless.
“Kathryn,” Sage interjected, “we’re not here to interfere in your love life. You’ve always had strong opinions, and even when Mom was alive, she couldn’t change your mind. You never saw us as brothers anyway, so it’s not like we could dictate what you should do.”

“Even if we wanted to,” he continued, “we came to discuss Mom’s inheritance and the Farrell family mansion. That mansion is our home. We were born there, grew up there, and even got married there. Yet now, you’ve allowed others to act as if they own it, effectively shutting us out.

Mom has barely been gone, and already you’re letting these people push us aside. We’re your true brothers—your family. No matter the arguments, we are still blood.”

Noel, growing angrier, echoed Sage’s sentiments, placing blame on Kathryn for the situation.

Kathryn didn’t respond with anger; instead, she allowed them to express their feelings. She understood their frustration and recognized that their upset was entirely expected.

Once they finished venting, Kathryn calmly stood up, picked up her coffee, and leaned against her desk, sipping it slowly. Her composed demeanor only fueled her brothers’ anger.

When they finally ran out of steam, their voices hoarse from yelling, they grabbed the glasses of water she had offered earlier.

“Kathryn, don’t just stand there,” Marco urged. “Tell us what you plan to do. Are you really going to let everything in the Farrell family slip away to them?”

“The conflicts of the past belong there,” Kathryn replied. “I took over Mom’s role, not theirs, and I’m not trying to take anything from them. Why should I hold on to everything Mom left behind?”
