Chapter 3791
The people gathering to dance in the square come from workers’ families. They understand each other’s routines and respect their neighbors’ peace. Living close to the villa, they interact daily as colleagues and friends and would never disrupt others’ rest for their own enjoyment.
Tatum smiled and commented, “That’s wonderful. It’s vibrant and helps pass the time.” He knew his grandmother was a lively person who couldn’t sit still. Previously, she had been busy arranging blind dates for them, but now her focus had shifted.
Although River and Alex, the younger family members in her care, were adults, they were still unfamiliar with the world, having only recently entered society less than two years ago. His grandmother wasn’t rushing to see them married. Then there was Rowan, who was still diligently preparing for the college entrance exams.
With age catching up to her, Grandma didn’t travel as much as she used to. Instead, she took pleasure in chatting with friends, sharing family stories, or dancing, as she was doing now.
Grandma May said, “That’s right. I’m enjoying my time with friends, sharing family tales, and dancing.”
She continued, “I’m making the most of it before your nephew arrives. Once he’s born, I’ll be busy taking care of the baby and won’t have time for fun.”
Tatum laughed, saying, “Grandma, you speak as if you’ll be the only one caring for the baby. There are many family members who can help. You can simply enjoy watching over him. By the way, didn’t you mention that the baby in my sister-in-law’s belly might be my niece?”
The old lady chuckled in response, “I can say that all I want, but Sonny insists the baby is a little brother, not a sister. Your York family is like a Buddhist.”
“We’ve never had a daughter or even a granddaughter. This time, I’m hoping for a great-granddaughter,” she said with a hopeful tone.
Changing the subject, she asked, “So, how’s everything going on your end? Are you planning to come home for the New Year? If not, how about Grandma brings your parents to celebrate with you? It would be nice to meet your future in-laws as well.”
Tatum recognized his grandmother’s teasing, but he still felt anxious that she might actually show up at the Ormond family’s doorstep during the holidays. He quickly responded, “Grandma, I’ve only been here a short time—how could things move that fast? Let’s just say I haven’t been fired yet. As long as I still have my job, there’s hope.”
“Only a short while? I thought you’d been away for over half a year,” Grandma remarked thoughtfully. “Or maybe it’s Kevin who’s been gone that long. It’s hard to keep track with so many grandchildren. Sometimes I can’t remember who’s doing what. Maybe I’m getting old and my memory is slipping.”
She sighed, adding, “It’s your eldest brother’s fault. He keeps me at home all day, and without a great-granddaughter to spoil, I’m bored to tears. It’s making me forgetful.”
Tatum smiled and said, “Grandma, do you really think you’re still eighteen? You’re over eighty now, and yet you’re always so active! Your brother is just looking out for you.”
Grandma May pouted slightly. “Alright, alright, let’s not discuss him. He’ll be back soon anyway, and I won’t be traveling in the meantime.”
“Grandma, I miss you,” Tatum said suddenly. “I really miss you.”
Tatum spoke up suddenly. His grandmother paused, then her expression softened into a smile. “Why did you say that out of nowhere? Are you feeling down?” Thinking about Tatum’s role as a chef in the Ormond household, she worried he might be struggling with the transition. She comforted him, saying, “There’s no shame in any job. Cooking is something you love, isn’t it? Isn’t it great that your work aligns with your passion? Plus, you’re cooking for your future wife! Before long, she’ll be hooked on your food and won’t be able to live without you. Or is she giving you a hard time and criticizing your dishes?”
