Tinsley gazed at Elora with a knowing look. “Sister, I believe Tatum is different when it comes to you. The way he looks at you and the way he smiles around you—it’s something special. You’re smart, sister. I can’t imagine you haven’t noticed. Have you ever thought that the fiancée chosen by Tatum’s grandmother might actually be you?”
Elora frowned, her skepticism clear. “How could that even be possible? I’ve never met his grandmother. I don’t even know what she looks like. Why would she choose me without knowing me? Besides, Tatum made it clear he intends to leave and focus on his fiancée when the time comes.”
“Anyway,” she added, dismissing the idea with a wave, “if you’re not upset, that’s all I care about. From now on, just keep your distance. Enjoy the meals he cooks, but don’t let your mind wander beyond that.”
Tinsley sighed silently, feeling exasperated. Elora clearly didn’t believe her when she said she had no romantic feelings for Tatum. Honestly, Tinsley couldn’t fully blame her; she had openly admired Tatum’s skills and personality a bit too much, likely fueling her sister’s doubts.
Still, if maintaining distance was the only way to reassure Elora, then so be it. After the New Year, Tinsley resolved to stop coming over for meals altogether. She would avoid Tatum and show Elora that she had truly “moved on.”
But for now, with the holidays approaching, Tinsley wasn’t willing to miss out on Tatum’s incredible cooking. She would keep attending dinners, act as if nothing was wrong, and simply avoid complimenting Tatum in front of Elora. That should prevent things from escalating further.

“Sister,” Tinsley finally said. “I’ll do as you ask and keep my distance from Tatum in the future.” She stood up to leave. “I’m heading out now.”
Elora hummed in acknowledgment but did not follow her out. Once Tinsley had exited the study, Elora leaned back in her chair, allowing her thoughts to drift. Could Tatum’s grandmother really have chosen me? she wondered.
She racked her memory, trying to recall if she had ever met the matriarch of the York family. No matter how hard she tried, she was certain she had never encountered the woman. Over the years, she had met many older women in business, but she knew their names and roles. None were connected to the York family of Wiltspoon.
Elora shook her head, scoffing at herself. “What’s wrong with me? Do I actually want to be Tatum’s fiancée now?” The thought seemed absurd. She had just advised Tinsley to give up on him, yet here she was, letting her own thoughts drift.
With a determined shake of her head, Elora pushed the idea aside. Tatum being the sixth young master of the York family, his wealth, and the thought of being his fiancée—none of that concerned her. He was just a chef she had hired, and she had never considered marrying someone who worked for her family.
Quickly standing up, Elora brushed off the lingering thoughts and went downstairs to join her family. She seamlessly slipped back into their conversation, chatting and watching TV as if nothing weighed on her mind. Moments like these were rare for Elora. Between her hectic business schedule and constant travel, she seldom had time to sit back and enjoy her family’s company, even her younger brother’s.
The usual chatter, typically loud and mischievous, felt endearing tonight. For now, Elora resolved to embrace the present and refrain from letting her thoughts wander further. Meanwhile, in his dormitory, Tatum closed and locked the door, isolating himself from the outside world. He pulled out his phone and dialed Zachary’s number.
When Zachary answered, his voice was calm yet authoritative. “Tatum, what’s going on?”
Tatum paused for a moment before replying softly, “Brother, I’ve been discovered.”
Zachary’s tone remained steady but inscrutable. “What do you mean, discovered? What did you do?”
Tatum sighed. “Elora knows I’m the sixth young master of the York family. An old classmate of hers recently traveled to Wiltspoon with her husband for business. They stayed there for two weeks and learned about the York Corporation. When her classmate found out my last name was York, she began asking questions.”
