Liberty had more faith in Zachary than in Serenity. She even recounted an embarrassing incident from Serenity’s past when she secretly drank vodka as a child.

Zachary gazed at Serenity so intensely that she wished she could disappear. “Liberty, why would you bring that up? It was so long ago!”

Liberty had even shared this story with Zachary.

With a smile, Liberty added, “After your meal that day, you climbed into bed and slept the whole day. You can’t handle your alcohol, but you still enjoy drinking. You always sleep like a rock afterward.”

“Zachary, just remember not to let her drink unless it’s a special occasion.”

Zachary smiled, pursing his lips. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

As Liberty reminisced about their younger days, laughter filled the air, gradually dispelling the earlier gloom.

Divorce wasn’t a catastrophe.

The world wouldn’t stop turning just because someone was gone. Liberty could still lead a fulfilling life without Hank.

After leaving the hotel, Liberty looked up at the dark sky and turned to her sister and brother-in-law. “Come on, I’ll treat you both to supper… I mean breakfast. Let’s celebrate my newfound singlehood in advance!”

It was already five o’clock in the morning. Serenity and Zachary exchanged glances but didn’t decline Liberty’s invitation.

The three of them went out for breakfast, and then Zachary drove his sister-in-law back to Bright Boulevard before taking his wife home.

They arrived home at dawn.

“Mr. York.”

When Zachary looked at Serenity, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “Mr. York, thank you.” He stepped closer, took her arms, and pulled her into a tight embrace. After a moment, he released her slightly and gazed down at her as he gently spoke,

“We’re husband and wife, so don’t mind the courtesy.”

Serenity paused to look at him for a moment before wrapping her arms around his neck, wanting to kiss him.

Oddly enough, Zachary was less domineering than usual. Instead, he covered her mouth and gazed into her dark eyes. He asked gently, “Are you kissing me as a reward or because you like me?”

Serenity blinked in response. “I just felt like kissing you. I didn’t think too much about it.”

“If you’re kissing me as a reward… I can reluctantly accept it, but it would make me uncomfortable.” Zachary almost said he would refuse her kiss if it was merely a reward.

However, he changed his mind just before the words escaped his lips.

He feared she might never kiss him again if he expressed that thought. It reminded him of the first time she came to his office to pick him up from work. He made a comment then, and since that day, she had never returned to his office.

This woman drove him crazy at times.

After a moment of contemplation, Serenity replied, “I don’t know why I wanted to kiss you; I just couldn’t help it. I thought about it and did it. If you consider the kiss a reward, I have nothing to say about that.”

She reached out to touch Zachary’s face. “Don’t forget to wash off your birthmark. It really affects your appearance.”

“I’m a man. Don’t call me beautiful,” he retorted.

“And how should I clean it?”

“Just wash it off with soap and water.”

Zachary asked again, “How much soap and water should I use? How long should I wash it for?”

Serenity frowned and replied, “Just look in the bathroom mirror while you wash it off. You can stop when there are no more stains on your face. Why would you ask such a stupid question? It makes you seem a bit dense.”

Zachary pursed his lips and fell silent, his dark eyes fixed intently on Serenity.
