Married At First Sight Chapter 3989
Chapter 3989
If an extended hand is strong enough, it can suppress the Labbe family’s business in Havenmill, X Province, effectively aiding Titus. However, Zachary informed Serenity that after Titus’s adversaries harmed his family, they took control of the Labbe family’s business but were unable to fully occupy it or mobilize the family’s elite forces. This limitation stemmed from their lack of access to critical symbols of authority: the family totem, the token, and the head of the family’s seal. These items were entrusted to the old doctor by Jane, who had given them to several respected elders for safekeeping. The elders, part of the older generation of the Five Emperors Hall, had long since retired from public life; few even remembered them, and even fewer knew the location of their stronghold. Entrusting the old doctor with these items was much safer than leaving them at FC Manor. The family totem of the Labbe family was engraved on Titus’s back. Serenity had seen the totem and recognized that it was not merely a symbol of identity but also a secret of the Labbe family. However, respecting the family’s privacy, Serenity refrained from asking questions, especially since Titus himself was still just a four- or five-year-old child and knew nothing about it. The ancestors of the Labbe family were more far-sighted than those of the Jensburg Farrell family, and their rules and systems were more comprehensive. Even if someone were to seize their position, it would be nearly impossible to claim everything for themselves. Even if ambitious individuals eliminated the entire Labbe clan, they could not fully replace the head without possessing the symbols of his identity. At present, Mr. Labbe managed the Labbe family’s business.
However, once Titus returned with the head’s token, everything Mr. Labbe had built would revert to him. Aware of this, Mr. Labbe was determined not to remain passive. It was clear why he was searching for Titus: to end the boy’s life while he was still young and to acquire the head’s token, thereby solidifying his status as the true leader of the Labbe family. This led Zachary to believe that rather than targeting the Labbe family directly, they could focus on disrupting Mr. Labbe’s private property.
“Mrs. Labbe, long time no see.” Serenity snapped back to reality and smiled as she addressed Carrie.
“Yes, we didn’t have a chance to meet again after the children went on winter vacation. After more than a month, Mrs. York, you are still as charming as ever,” Carrie replied, her gaze lingering on Serenity’s growing belly. “Mrs. York, are you going to give birth soon?”
“It will be another three months,” Serenity answered. Although her due date was still three months away, it could be earlier or later. She recalled how her sister had gone through a similar situation with Sonny, who had arrived a week later than expected.
“Mrs. York, when you give birth, could you invite me to drink the full moon wine when the baby is one month old? I would love to share in the joy. I was pregnant last time, but I unfortunately miscarried.” Carrie’s tone took on a somber note, and her expression clouded with a hint of loneliness.
As she spoke about her lost child, her mind seemed to drift. The first time she had been pregnant, the baby was not fully formed, and the child’s father had insisted that she terminate the pregnancy.
Carrie didn’t love Mr. Labbe, and she understood that he didn’t love her either. To him, she was merely a pawn. In Wiltspoon, she held the title of “Mrs. Labbe,” but in reality, she was just one of many women in his life.
His life.
It had been quite a while since Mr. Labbe last visited her.
While her monthly allowance continued to arrive punctually, it was no longer as generous as it once was. Whenever she requested additional funds, Mr. Labbe’s responses were noticeably less accommodating.
