**Chapter 4001**
Kathryn said, “I’ll do my best to persuade them to leave. I plan to visit my father and my two sisters-in-law in a few days and ask them to reason with my brothers. If they still refuse to listen, then so be it.”
Liberty responded, “Do what you have to do. I’ll look the other way.”
It wasn’t that Kathryn didn’t care about family; she did. However, her brothers never valued it. What more could Kathryn do?
She elaborated, “I’m not the type to harm innocent people. If they behave, stop scheming, and leave Jensburg for the Janzen family estate, I only want half of what they currently possess.” Leaving them with half their property wouldn’t render Marco and the others destitute; it would still be a sign of respect from Kathryn.
Kathryn continued, “But they won’t relent. They’ll continue playing games. You’re being merciful by asking for just half.”
Although they had only been reunited for a few years, Kathryn understood her brothers all too well.
Their mother, Clarissa, had refused to assist Kathryn in dealing with them. Despite her stern reputation, Clarissa could not bring herself to act against her own sons, leaving Kathryn to bear the burden alone.
Kathryn wasn’t heartless, but her brothers had always harbored hatred towards her. They had shown no love for her in the past, nor did they now. In fact, they would prefer to see her dead.
She was willing to request leniency from Liberty because her mother had entrusted most of her property to Kathryn before she passed away.
The two women spent hours discussing matters in Kathryn’s office. Later, Kathryn gave Liberty a tour of the Farrell Group offices to help her get acquainted with the environment. While they couldn’t cover everything in one day, Kathryn promised to show her the major subsidiaries over the coming days.

of her of being selfish for holding onto the inheritance. Kathryn wanted her brothers to understand the full scope of their situation and the importance of responsible financial management. Meanwhile, Marco and his brothers departed from the Farrell Group and headed directly to the Janzen family estate, a journey of several dozen miles. After the New Year, Holden relocated from Jensburg back to his hometown to retire. He aimed to set a positive example for his sons, motivating them to preserve their assets and return home to establish a stable life. Despite the sizable inheritance left by his late wife, Holden had not received any share. Instead, he focused on preparing his sons for a secure retirement.

Regarding the shares intended for Clarissa’s children and grandchildren, Kathryn approached the matter with caution. She chose to entrust the inheritance meant for her nieces and nephews to their mothers—her sisters-in-law—rather than her brothers. Kathryn recognized her brothers’ unreliability and feared they would squander the inheritance on their mistresses instead of investing in their children’s futures. “It’s safer in the hands of their mothers,” Kathryn reasoned. “Even if they don’t use it, at least it won’t be wasted.”

Kathryn had come across an online observation highlighting the stark contrast between wealthy parents:
– A mother with money invests it in her children.
– A father with money uses it to have more children, often selecting the most capable one to inherit his legacy.

This insight resonated painfully within her own family. Kathryn had withheld the inheritance from her brothers not out of greed but to protect them from their own poor choices. She intended to wait until they deplete their current assets and face the repercussions of their recklessness. Only then would she consider distributing what their late mother had bequeathed to them. This approach was meant to prevent her brothers from falling into complete financial ruin. However, instead of recognizing her good intentions, they accused her of selfishness.

She was accused of forging their mother’s will and demanded an equal distribution of the inheritance. When she declined, they took her to court. Who was afraid of whom? Kathryn was not afraid; she had never forged a will and was not intimidated by their threats. Meanwhile, Holden stayed at his Janzen family estate, enduring constant stress as he dealt with the ongoing conflict among his children.
