Abby had not yet replied to Evan. She was still at the office, overwhelmed with work.
Evan’s message remained unread; she hadn’t even had a moment to glance at it. All Abby wanted was to finish her tasks quickly so she could finally have dinner after a long day.

Thinking about how busy she was compared to Evan’s apparent idleness sparked a flicker of annoyance within her. She felt no inclination to pay him any attention.
While her parents might believe she needed to be with Evan, Abby wasn’t so certain.
It wasn’t as if she couldn’t find someone else. She could meet someone who truly captured her heart.
Even if she eventually accepted Evan, she wouldn’t make it easy for him. She would let him pursue her, prove himself, and understand that she was not someone to be taken for granted.
If he didn’t value her, she would have no hesitation in walking away.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.
“Come in,” Abby said, not looking up.
At this hour, it was likely either her secretary or her eldest sister, Adalee Du, who led the Du Group.

“You’re still here?” Adalee asked, her expression softening the moment she stepped inside. She was a complex individual; at work, she was serious and commanding, often intimidating as a leader. However, with her family, she transformed into a warm, protective sibling, fiercely loyal to her brothers and sisters and willing to go to great lengths to defend them.

Although Adalee hadn’t yet confronted Evan about anything, it wasn’t due to a lack of desire. Abby had restrained her, insisting she could handle matters on her own. While Adalee had trained in boxing and self-defense under Abby’s guidance, Abby was still the stronger of the two. Nonetheless, Adalee was no pushover; she could hold her own in a fight, especially against ordinary opponents.

“I’m finishing up a few things,” Abby replied. “Once I’m done, I’ll head out. I don’t have any work events tonight, so I thought I’d go shopping with a few of the girls.”

The streets were already buzzing with activity in anticipation of the Lantern Festival. Huyoniville had a unique rhythm; it was quiet during the New Year when many residents left to celebrate with their families. However, by the fifth or sixth day of the lunar month, the migrant workers returned, infusing the city with life and energy.

Abby loved being part of that vibrancy. She wasn’t one to shy away from the hustle and bustle. Although she might not seek the spotlight, she enjoyed observing the chaos and joining in when she could.

Abby thrived on excitement and occasionally stirred up a bit of mischief. Whether she was playing the hero, enjoying snacks, or unintentionally offending someone, she always found herself in the midst of the action.
