Married At First Sight
Chapter 4021
Mrs. Du gently knocked on Abby’s door, but there was no answer.
“Abby probably went to bed early. Stop knocking—look at the time,” Mr. Du said, lowering his
voice as a reminder. “It’s late, and she’s likely already asleep. Don’t wake her.”
Hearing this, Mrs. Du paused and sighed. “I just haven’t seen her these past few days.
I wanted to talk to her, but if she’s asleep, I’ll have to wait until her next day off.”
The Du family mansion was large and spacious, but the younger generation was always busy
with work. They often left early in the morning and returned late at night. Even during
the New Year holiday, true relaxation was a luxury. Social obligations and client meetings
dominated their schedules.
Although the Du Group was one of Huyoniville’s largest corporations, they faced fierce
competition. Their clients were influential, and their rivals were always lurking, ready to seize
opportunities.
Maintaining strong relationships with clients was essential—part of the unspoken rules of
business. Those familiar with the industry understood this reality all too well.
“If you miss her so much, just stop by the company and see her,” Mr. Du suggested as they
walked to their bedroom.
“She’s overwhelmed at work,” Mrs. Du replied. “If I visit her there, it’ll interrupt her. She’ll end
up staying late to catch up on her tasks. I don’t want to make things harder for her.”
Mrs. Du’s expression softened. “I just wanted to discuss Spencer’s return. She’s agreed to pick him up at the airport tomorrow. We’ve watched Spencer grow up—he’s capable, kind, and has a good head on his shoulders. Honestly, he’s not much different from that kid from the York family.”
Mr. Du chuckled lightly as he opened their bedroom door and

about. He quickly turned off the water and wrapped a towel around his waist. “What are you doing here?” he asked, surprise evident in his voice.

Abby smiled, trying to act casual. “I wanted to see you. It’s been a while.”

Evan ran a hand through his wet hair, still taken aback. “Yeah, it has. I wasn’t expecting you.”

She stepped further into the room, her heart racing. “I know it’s a bit sudden, but I thought we could talk—just the two of us.”

Evan’s expression softened, curiosity replacing his initial shock. “Sure, about what?”

Abby took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. “About us… and everything that’s been happening.”

He nodded slowly, sensing the seriousness in her tone. “Okay, let’s talk.”

As they settled onto the edge of the bed, both of them felt the tension in the air. Abby’s mind raced with thoughts of Fox, her alter ego, and the feelings that seemed to complicate everything.

“Evan,” she started, “I know things haven’t been easy between us, especially with your feelings for Fox.”

He interjected, “But I can’t help but think about you too, Abby. It’s confusing.”

Abby looked down, her heart aching. “I care about you, Evan. But… Fox is a part of me, and I don’t know how to separate that from who I am.”

Evan took a deep breath, leaning closer. “You don’t have to. I want to understand you, all of you.”

She looked up at him, vulnerability shining in her eyes. “Really?”

“Yeah,” he said softly. “I’m willing to figure this out together.”

In that moment, Abby felt a flicker of hope. Perhaps, just maybe, they could find a way to navigate their complicated feelings.

But tonight, she wasn’t wearing the red dress he had become so accustomed to seeing. Abby sat casually at the table, flipping through a romance novel—one Evan had purchased in hopes of understanding how fictional heroes won back their wives. Ironically, it was a story about “chasing a wife to the ends of the earth.”

Evan’s heart lifted at the sight of her. A smile tugged at his lips as he opened his mouth to call her “Fox,” but Zachary’s words echoed in his mind. He caught himself just in time and said instead, “Abby.”

Without even looking up from her book, Abby offered a faint smile. “It’s just a shower, Evan. You’re not drunk, so why are you acting confused? Can’t you tell who I am? Or is it my change of outfit that’s throwing you off?”

Her tone was playful, yet there was an unmistakable edge beneath the teasing. Evan stood there, momentarily stunned, unsure if her words were meant to challenge or mock him. Either way, he realized one thing for certain—winning her back would not be easy.
