Liberty did not speak much to her sister. After handing her son to Serenity, she waved goodbye to her brother-in-law and the elderly lady before quickly riding away.
She arrived at the office fifteen minutes before work hours began.
Initially, it took her twenty minutes to complete five laps. Now that she had become accustomed to running, her speed had improved slightly.
She was still able to make it on time.
After parking her bike, she locked it up and started running. Liberty ran five laps around the small garden in front of the office building every day before work. Everyone at Lewis & Co. was aware of her routine. At first, they watched her as if it were a show. Within a couple of days, some colleagues decided to join her. They spent most of their time in the office and hardly exercised, making it easy to gain weight. However, they were not as heavy as Liberty. Running a few laps before work helped them shed some pounds.
Liberty completed her five laps in fourteen minutes, sprinting the last minute to clock in. She had left a bit late today, which caused her to feel rushed.
Fortunately, she was not late.
“Mr. Lewis.”
“Mr. Lewis.”
She heard her colleagues greeting someone. Duncan Lewis had arrived. Liberty turned around and, sure enough, saw Duncan striding in confidently. Unlike Zachary, who wore a suit every day, Duncan dressed casually and never brought bodyguards with him. He did not make a spectacle of himself or act superior. No matter who greeted him, he always nodded in acknowledgment. Liberty had been working here for a few months, and she had gotten used to seeing him.
In recent days, Liberty frequently overheard her colleagues discussing Duncan in private. She learned that Duncan was the fourth son of the Lewis family and was still single at thirty-five. Additionally, she discovered that he had been involved in some dubious activities during his rebellious youth, which left him with a scar on his face as a reminder of that time.
His past, combined with his tall and imposing appearance, made him seem like someone not to be trifled with. Despite being thirty-five, he had no girlfriend, and it was rumored that most noblewomen disliked him due to his facial scar. They also looked down on him because of his shady past, fearing potential domestic violence if they were to marry him.
In the workplace, some young female colleagues admired Duncan. However, Liberty hesitated to speculate whether their admiration was genuine or merely a response to his status, as opinions varied among individuals.
As a new clerk who had secured her position thanks to Duncan’s influence, Liberty had become the center of attention at the company. While everyone was outwardly polite to her, they secretly alienated her and attempted to undermine her.
Liberty made every effort to avoid encountering Duncan in the office. However, when she unexpectedly ran into him, she felt compelled to greet him, as it was too late to hide.
“Mr. Lewis,” she said, offering a polite greeting like everyone else. As Duncan walked past her, he paused to scrutinize her twice and asked, “Are you still running?”
“Yes, I run five laps every day before work,” she replied.
“That’s good. Avoid junk food and try to eat less in the cafeteria as well.”
If this woman managed her eating habits and exercised more, she could certainly lose weight.
Her husband had an affair and wanted a divorce.
Duncan understood men well, so he was confident that a significant reason for Liberty’s husband’s infidelity stemmed from his disdain for her current appearance.
If Liberty were to regain her original figure and later encounter her ex-husband, Duncan wondered how he would react.
Always outspoken and straightforward without any tricks up his sleeve, Duncan found himself looking forward to that day.
