Shortly after, the emergency room door swung open, and Sonny was wheeled out.
Serenity and Zachary quickly approached. Serenity anxiously asked the doctor, “Doctor, how is my nephew?”
“The child has sustained soft tissue injuries to his face, and one side of his thigh is bruised. Was he kicked? There are footprints on his clothes. Aside from that, there are no other injuries. He is unconscious due to shock,” the doctor replied.
A nurse was applying ice to Sonny’s face.
“Who could be so cruel as to harm such a small baby?”
The doctors felt a deep sense of distress over Sonny’s condition.
This adorable little baby had been beaten, leaving both sides of his face black and blue, revealing the ruthlessness of his attacker.
The abuser clearly had serious mental issues.
“His cousin.”
The doctor was taken aback, wondering, ‘What kind of grudge would lead someone to brutally assault their own little cousin?’
“I took pictures of the child’s injuries earlier. You can keep them as evidence for the police to pursue charges against the perpetrator.”
Serenity quickly thanked the doctor and pulled out her phone to save the doctor’s contact information. After receiving the photos, she immediately forwarded them to Liberty.
“The child’s injuries aren’t severe, but he is deeply traumatized. You should spend more time with him. He is still young, so he will gradually forget this trauma, provided someone is there for him.”
Serenity nodded repeatedly.
“Thank you, doctor.”
Zachary echoed his gratitude to the doctor.
“You’re welcome.”
Once the doctor left, the couple followed the nurses into a ward. Sonny was gently placed into a bed, and one of the nurses said, “He will wake up soon, and when he does, try to comfort him.”
He fainted from shock. His face remains swollen, so it’s important to continue applying ice for the next twenty-four hours. After that, you can switch to a hot compress.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Serenity expressed her gratitude to the nurse profusely. She sat on the bed, taking over the nurse’s role of applying ice to Sonny’s face.
After a few minutes, Sonny began to stir. Upon opening his eyes, he felt the urge to cry, but when he saw Serenity, he managed to hold back his tears. He crawled over to her and nestled into her arms.
“Sonny, don’t be scared. Aunt Seren is here,” she reassured him.
Serenity hugged him with one arm while holding the ice pack in the other, softly coaxing, “Let me apply this to your face so you can feel better soon.”
Sonny clung to her clothes with his tiny hands. After some gentle persuasion from Serenity, he finally lifted his face, allowing her to place the ice on it.
“Zack, Serenity,” Callum and the others arrived.
“How’s Sonny?” Callum asked with concern.
“The soft tissue in his face is damaged. The doctor recommended using ice cubes first, then a hot compress after twenty-four hours. One side of his thigh is bruised from the kick. The main issue is that he fainted from shock.”
Fortunately, the physical injuries should heal easily.
