Chapter 700
Zachary was initially concerned that his mother might give Serenity a hard time. He quickly finished preparing the last dish and rushed out of the kitchen. Just as he was about to exit, his mom and wife entered, engaged in conversation and laughter.
He paused, a smile spreading across his handsome face.
Zachary realized he had no reason to worry.
Serenity had a talent for creating an atmosphere that left his mother with nothing to criticize.
“Mom,”
Zachary called out to his mother affectionately.
“I caught a whiff of something delicious the moment I walked in. I see your cooking hasn’t declined,”
Tania praised her son before turning to Serenity. “You have to keep it up, Serenity. Don’t let him get the upper hand.”
“Mom, you haven’t even tasted his cooking yet. Zachary’s food might not be as good as it smells. If he loses to me, he should be the one cooking every day to improve his skills. He should also take charge of the family dinner for New Year,” Serenity replied.
With her beautiful eyes sparkling, Tania grinned and said, “You need to make sure he practices when he has time, so we don’t end up with food poisoning.”
Zachary listened as his mother and wife enjoyed a pleasant conversation. His mother was trying to persuade Serenity to handle all three meals, while Serenity cleverly responded without offending her.
The doorbell rang again.
“That must be the seafood delivery. I’ll go get it,” Serenity said.
Turning on her heel, she headed toward the gate once more.
With Serenity gone, Tania began to circle her son.
“Mom, whatever it is, you can tell me. Serenity isn’t here; she can’t hear you,” Zachary said.
Tania reached out and tugged at Zachary’s apron, saying, “You look a bit like your dad right now.”
“I’m my dad’s son, so of course I look like him,” Zachary replied.
Zachary guided his mother to sit down on the sofa.
“How long has it been since the heir of the Yorks and CEO of York Corporation picked up a pot and pan? You’re going back to cooking for a woman. Zack, I’m impressed.”
Although she wasn’t particularly fond of Serenity as a daughter-in-law, she understood her son well.
Without an older family member to play matchmaker, her son would likely remain single forever.
As a child, he had no interest in playing with girls. While other teenage boys began to pursue girls, he received countless love letters without even trying. He simply handed them to the teacher unopened.
The girls who wrote those letters received an educational lecture from the teacher.
Over time, many girls lost the courage to confess their feelings or give him love letters; they admired him from a distance instead.
Zack would avoid outings with friends if girls were involved.
In short, he had a clear aversion to engaging with women.
Grandma May had once suspected that Zack was misogynistic.
However, Tania, who understood Zachary’s character well, chose not to intervene when Grandma May attempted to match him with Serenity.
She wanted to see if Serenity could change her son’s outlook on young women.
Tania would accept Serenity if there was genuine chemistry between them.
She wouldn’t hold any grudges if they decided to part ways; she could then arrange for her son to date an heiress of equal standing to the Yorks.
Zachary spoke softly, “Mom, I’m just following in Dad’s footsteps. He’s my role model.”
Tania was left speechless.
