Married at First Sight Chapter 4431
“What are you thanking me for? We’ve been together for decades, like a mother and daughter. It should be me thanking you for giving me two wonderful grandsons. Now, I’m a great-grandmother.”
The elderly woman gently patted Tang Junye’s hand and said, “As long as you and your eldest brother take good care of yourselves and stay healthy, you’ll be around to enjoy the blessings of your children and grandchildren. When you reach my age, you’ll have grandchildren of your own.”
Tang Junye smiled. “If I live to be a grandmother, I’ll wake up laughing in my dreams.”
“Why not? You could live into your eighties or even nineties.”
“Just look at Mr. Fei—he’s nearly a hundred and still in good health. I think he’s even more energetic now that he lives with Feng Ying. Maybe he’ll live past a hundred.”
“That’s because he’s happy. His worries are behind him, and now he just enjoys his grandchildren.”
“Ayin and Ayuan are both wonderful kids. You just sit back and enjoy life. Our little one is only a few days old now, but time flies—before you know it, he’ll be all grown up.”
The old lady handed her tiny great-grandson to Tang Junye to hold.
Holding the baby, Tang Junye said, “It’s just like when Ayin was born. In the blink of an eye, he’s already in his thirties.”
Tang Junye smiled again. “Yes, yes, I’ll listen to Mom and follow her example. I won’t worry too much, I won’t meddle, and I’ll focus on relaxing and living a long life.”
“The more I look at our baby, the more I adore him.”
“This little guy is so handsome.”
“I never get tired of looking at my own children—I always think they’re the most handsome babies in the world.”
“He is handsome. Just look at Ayin and Tongtong—both are good-looking, so it’s only natural their child would be, too.”
“In four or five years, ask them to try for a second child—a daughter. Then I’ll get to hold my great-granddaughter, and I’ll be content to meet your father-in-law in peace.”
Tang Junye asked her mother-in-law, a bit worried, “Mom, do you think the master’s prediction was accurate? Can Ayin and Tongtong really have both a son and a daughter?”
“I could see how nervous Ayin was during Tongtong’s pregnancy, and even more so when she gave birth. Would he really want her to go through that again?”
“To be honest, I don’t want Tongtong to have another child. I already see her as my own daughter. What mother wants to see her daughter suffer again?”
When she was younger, Tang Junye and her husband had tried to have a daughter but weren’t successful. She had also watched her sisters-in-law try for second and third children, yet still no daughters.
Though their families were well-off and the women recovered quickly after childbirth, it didn’t make the experience any easier.
Although they live in comfort and are well cared for after childbirth, and their bodies recover quickly, it doesn’t erase the exhaustion they feel during pregnancy.
Deep down, she did want a granddaughter—but she didn’t want to pressure her daughter-in-law to have another child just for that.
The old lady was quiet for a moment, then said, “The master’s prediction is likely accurate. But whether they have a second child depends on the couple. As elders, we should let nature take its course and not interfere.”
“From now on, let’s stop mentioning having a daughter in front of the younger generation. We should just let things happen naturally.”
She also sympathized with her grandsons’ wives.
“Ayin has nine brothers in this life, so the chances are higher. But even if we don’t get what we hope for, we can still treat our daughters-in-law as if they were our own daughters.”
The old lady was comforting both herself and her daughter-in-law. “I’ve always treated you and your sisters-in-law like my own daughters. We’ve always gotten along like a real mother and daughter.”
Just then, Haitong came in after finishing her breakfast.
The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law immediately dropped the conversation when they saw her.
They didn’t want to pressure Haitong.
If word got out, others might say the mothers-in-law didn’t care about their daughters-in-law, already thinking about a second child just days after the first was born.
“Grandma, Mom,” Haitong greeted.
She had no idea what they’d been discussing. When she entered, she simply noticed both of them were focused intently on the baby.
The elders in the family adored the child.
Even the two aunts stopped by several times a day just to see him.
Her son was already surrounded by love. From the moment he was born, he had been the center of everyone’s attention.
Once he got a little older, she would have to become more firm in raising him, as she worried that all the affection might spoil him.
