Gu Yanzhong laughed and replied, “Chen’er, you saved my life! You don’t need to be so polite with me.”
Lin Wanqiu chimed in with a smile, “Yes, Chen’er, your Uncle Gu has been so excited about celebrating your birthday this year. You wouldn’t believe how much he has talked about it on the way here!”
Gu Qiuyi quickly asked, “Dad, did you bring the birthday cake? Is it here?”
“Of course!” Gu Yanzhong said with a grin. “I wouldn’t forget what my baby girl wanted. The cake is in the cargo hold of the plane. I made sure the crew followed all the cake maker’s instructions. They kept the temperature at zero degrees, and the packing is all secure. It will be unloaded and sent to the hotel shortly!”
“That’s great!” Gu Qiuyi sighed with relief. She looked at Charlie Wade and said excitedly, “Brother Charlie Wade, the cake I ordered is amazing. You’re going to love it!”
Charlie Wade smiled back and said, “Thank you in advance, Nanny.”
Gu Qiuyi blushed and replied, “Why are you being so polite with me?”
Charlie Wade then turned to Gu Yanzhong and Lin Wanqiu, “Uncle Gu and Aunt Lin, let’s head to the hotel now. I’ve already made arrangements there.”
“Sounds good!” Gu Yanzhong nodded and started to lead the way.
Gu Yanzhong turned to his staff and said, “Take the cake to the restaurant, but be careful not to make any mistakes.” Several staff members quickly nodded, replying, “Don’t worry, Mr. Gu. We’ll make sure the cake arrives safely.”
Satisfied, Gu Yanzhong looked at Charlie Wade and Gu Qiuyi and said, “Alright, let’s go!”
Curious, Gu Qiuyi asked, “Dad! You came all this way to celebrate Charlie Wade’s birthday. Don’t you have a gift for him?”
Gu Yanzhong confidently replied, “Of course I do! Do you think I would forget something like that?”
Gu Qiuyi was surprised. “But I didn’t see you preparing any gifts. You just asked me to take the cake to the restaurant! Are you really not prepared?”
Charlie Wade quickly interjected, “Nanny, don’t say that! My Uncle Gu wouldn’t forget to give me a gift on my birthday.”
Laughing, Gu Yanzhong said, “You’re right, Chen’er. As an elder, it’s my duty to give a birthday gift to the younger ones. I was mistaken.”
Lin Wanqiu chimed in with a smile, “Old Gu, look at your girl! She’s already siding with Charlie Wade!”
Gu Qiuyi playfully stuck her tongue out. “Mom, I’m not siding with him. I just think he deserves a gift too!”
Gu Yanzhong shook his head with a smile and said to Gu Qiuyi, “This is Chen’er’s first birthday in nearly 20 years. How could I forget to give him a gift?”
Pointing to the airplane behind him, he added, “Look! This is the birthday gift I prepared for Chen’er. This plane just came off the production line from Boeing.”
