Chapter: 3110
Ten minutes later, Gu Qiuyi, now dressed in casual clothes, got into the car with her parents to head to the airport. During the ride, she chatted with her mother, Lin Wanqiu.
As a mother, Lin Wanqiu had many questions for her daughter. The first one was, “Nanny, when did you order the wedding dress you’ll wear tonight?”
Gu Qiuyi smiled and replied, “Mom, do you know Vera Wang?”
“I do,” Lin Wanqiu nodded. “Isn’t she the famous Chinese designer? Her brand has been very popular in Europe and America. Even the daughters of former U.S. President Clinton and Bush wore her dresses for their weddings. Did you get your wedding dress from her too?”
Gu Qiuyi smiled again and explained, “A few years ago, she announced that she would stop making wedding dresses for others. But I invited her from the U.S. a few months ago, and she came to measure my size. Then she went back to the U.S. to make the dress just for me.”
Lin Wanqiu smiled and said, “Wow, that’s impressive! She must really like you to come all this way to make your dress.”
Gu Qiuyi replied seriously, “Mom, to be honest, I never thought I could ask her. She usually works with top families and wealthy clients in the U.S. Many women are eager to have her design their wedding dresses, but no one has been able to get her to come out in person for years. Even the Su and Ye families have tried to reach her without success.”
After a brief pause, Gu Qiuyi continued, “The only reason she agreed to come to China to help me is…”
Gu Qiuyi smiled as she explained, “Aunt An has long thought of me as the future daughter-in-law.”
Lin Wanqiu looked surprised. “Are you saying that Wang Weiwei came here because of Chen’er’s mother?”
“Yes, that’s correct,” Gu Qiuyi replied. “I had just paid a deposit for her brand and asked her designer to create a special wedding dress for me. I never expected her to come in person.”
Gu Qiuyi continued, “I was surprised too when she arrived. I asked her why she came, and she told me that she and Aunt An, along with Aunt An’s mother, have been friends for many years.”
She added, “When Brother Charlie Wade and Aunt An visited the United States as kids, she met Brother Charlie Wade and learned about our families’ connections.”
Lin Wanqiu thought for a moment and said, “Wang Weiwei must be in her seventies. Sister Bian is almost twenty years older than her. I didn’t know she was friends with Aunt An.”
Gu Qiuyi speculated, “Maybe they met through Aunt An’s mother.”
She then shared, “Wang Weiwei mentioned that Aunt An has helped her a lot in the past, and she sounded very grateful.”
Lin Wanqiu nodded in agreement. “Your Aunt An has supported so many people. In Silicon Valley alone, more than half of the big companies have received investments from her.”
Gu Qiuyi added, “That’s why she traveled all this way to help me with my measurements. She’s been working on my wedding dress for months. Recently, she brought it over for me to try on and made some adjustments right then and there. After all that work, she didn’t want to charge me anything, saying it was a gift from Aunt An.”
Gu Yanzhong was quiet for a moment. Then he turned to Gu Qiuyi with a serious look and asked, “Nannan, have you told her about Chen’er?”
“No,” Gu Qiuyi replied. “She only talked about her relationship with Aunt An’s family, but she never asked me about Charlie Wade’s brother.”
Suddenly, Gu Yanzhong remembered something important. He smacked his thigh and exclaimed, “Oh no! We forgot something crucial!”
Feeling anxious, Gu Qiuyi quickly asked, “Dad, what is it?”
Gu Yanzhong said, “You made such a big splash at the concert today. If the An family sees it, they’ll realize that Chen’er is still alive and that we’ve found him!”
