When Charlie Wade heard this, he felt a surge of excitement. He quickly pulled over and asked, “Brother, don’t panic. Can you tell me about the government army’s overall strength?”
“It’s not very good,” Hamid replied. “But they have hired some powerful mercenaries. The Ten Thousand Dragon Palace sent 10,000 soldiers to help the government.”
Charlie frowned and asked, “What is the Ten Thousand Dragon Palace?”
“I’m not entirely sure,” Hamid said. “But I’ve heard it’s a mercenary group founded by Chinese people. They’ve grown quickly and are quite strong! Their soldiers are better trained than the government army. They are pretty much on par with special forces in developed countries!”
Charlie was surprised. “I’ve never heard of this group. I know about American Blackwater, Russian Cossacks, and Wanlong Temple, but this is new to me.”
Hamid sighed. “You don’t often deal with mercenaries, so it’s understandable. They are professional soldiers who operate for money. They thrive in war-torn places like ours. The Ten Thousand Dragon Palace supposedly has tens of thousands of fighters, including nearly a hundred elite masters. They are very powerful. Their leader even sent one of his top four warriors to Syria…”
Charlie interrupted, “Don’t be too nervous. Even special forces can die from a bullet. While their individual skills may be higher, you have your own advantages to use. If you play your cards right, you can turn the situation to your favor.”
Charlie Wade looked at Hamid and asked, “How are the repairs on your Yongbei fortifications and the reverse slope tunnel going?”
Hamid quickly replied, “I’ve been pushing my team to work overtime, but the workload is really heavy. It’s tough to finish the entire plan in such a short time.”
Charlie nodded, understanding the challenge. “I get it. Can you tell me if the current fortifications and reverse slope tunnels are ready for front-line defense?”
“Yes,” Hamid said. “The frontal fortifications at the base entrance are almost complete. This is the most important part of my defense. As for the reverse slope tunnel, I’ve dug out all the sides. However, there’s no complete tunnel network, and it doesn’t extend in all directions yet. But, I’ve stored a lot of materials there, as you advised. We can hold out for one or two years with those supplies.”
“Great!” Charlie responded. “Now, do you know how the opponent’s 8,000 troops are armed?”
Hamid replied, “They have 10 armored vehicles, over 30 towed artillery pieces, and around fifty or sixty trucks, likely for materials and ammunition.”
Charlie paused to think before asking, “Do you know the types of the towed artillery?”
Hamid said, “The investigators believe they are Russian-made 152mm artillery.”
Charlie was familiar with military equipment. His father, Ye Changying, was a big military enthusiast. Their home used to be filled with models of different weapons and countless books and magazines about them. Charlie had learned a lot about various weapons from a young age.
When she was young, she learned a lot from what she heard and saw. So, without really thinking, he said, “There are many types of Russian-made 152mm artillery. But I think the ones that might be sent to Syria are mostly from the 1970s and 1980s, or even older. Their effective range is probably around twenty kilometers.”
