Chapter: 3154
For the soldiers of the Dragon Temple, the RPG shoulder-mounted rocket is their strongest weapon right now. Lu Zhanjun believes that this weapon is sufficient. The heavy losses they faced in the last frontal attack were not due to the strength of the enemy but because they underestimated them.
He knows that if he focuses and finds the right strategy, he can lead the soldiers of the Pantheon to victory. Lu Zhanjun and his team have now reached the base of Hamid’s west wing. He is confident that in about an hour, this war will come to an end.
Lu Zhanjun has prepared three plans for the attack:
1. The best plan is to quietly approach the entrance of Hamid’s fortifications. Then, they would suddenly rush in, catching the enemy by surprise and taking them out in their own defenses. This is the ideal outcome for any offensive, as it minimizes casualties while achieving their goal.
2. The second plan involves using RPG rockets when they get close to the Yongbei fortifications. This would allow for precise strikes on the enemy’s bunkers and artillery, similar to scenes in anti-Japanese films.
3. The third and least favorable option is to launch an all-out assault at any cost. However, this plan rarely succeeds. If they enter the enemy’s fire zone without neutralizing their defenses, the enemy gains a deadly advantage, and winning would require sacrificing many soldiers.
Because of this, Lu Zhanjun hopes to avoid the third option. Yet, as a commander, he knows he must consider every possibility. He has set a red line for this plan; if casualties become too high, he will have to rethink their approach.
Zhanjun was ready. He had checked all the ammunition and made sure everything was in order. Now, he communicated with the commander on the front lines through the walkie-talkie. “We’re now on the west side of the enemy. Launch a feint attack immediately!”
The commander responded quickly, “Once we launch the feint, you need to surprise attack right away!”
Lu Zhanjun looked at his watch and replied, “I’ll attack from the west wing ten minutes after your feint begins.”
“Why wait ten minutes?” the commander asked, confused. “Their firepower is strong, and their defenses are tough. If I attack, you should flank them immediately. That makes the most sense!”
Lu Zhanjun replied seriously, “I need to wait for you to engage first. I want to see where the enemy’s firepower is coming from. Once we know their position, my team can make a precise sneak attack and take out their firepower. If we charge in together, we won’t be able to break through!”
After a moment of hesitation, the commander realized Lu Zhanjun was right. “Okay! I’ll prepare my soldiers and we’ll attack in ten minutes!”
He understood that they had no other options. With the strength of Hamid’s fortifications, a direct attack was impossible. Their best chance for success rested with Lu Zhanjun.
Zhanjun had been a mercenary for several years, gaining a lot of experience. However, most of this experience came from attacking small armed groups in war-torn areas. He had never faced a truly strong and strategic opponent. It was similar to a martial arts master who only fought street gangsters to build their skills.
Zhanjun was unaware that he was getting too comfortable in his role, much like someone who indulges in food without realizing they are overeating. This sense of accomplishment from his past victories had clouded his judgment.
At that moment, Zhanjun was lost in his thoughts, not realizing he had walked right into the enemy’s trap. He was still focused on using a high-powered telescope to watch the movements at the front.
He instructed the soldiers around him, saying, “Pay close attention. After their second feint attack, we need to locate Hamid’s firepower positions. Mark all of them. Once we start our offensive, we will take out these points quickly! If we can dismantle their defenses, we will win!”
The soldiers nodded and began to prepare their observation equipment and drawing tools, ready to map out the enemy’s firepower locations as soon as the feint attack began. Zhanjun was confident, believing that the area in front of him was already his to control!
