- The Amazing Son-in-Law [The Charismatic Charlie Wade] (Chinese name) Chapter: 4522
When Liu Manqiong heard Charlie Wade’s words, she felt even more reluctant inside.
Trying to appear relaxed, she smiled and said, “Okay, I’ll take you there tomorrow night.”
After saying that, she realized they didn’t have much to talk about. She didn’t want to bring up the previous topic, and now she felt stuck on what to say to Charlie.
Actually, she had many questions for him. She wanted to know where he came from in the Mainland, if he had ever been married at 28, or if he was dating anyone. She also thought about asking him if he wanted to spend more time on Hong Kong Island. There were many places she wanted to show him, places she hadn’t shared with anyone else.
But none of these questions felt safe to ask. She was afraid of both the questions and the answers.
So, the car fell into silence.
It was raining on Hong Kong Island, and halfway through their drive, raindrops began to fall from the sky. Liu Manqiong, who was stealing glances at Charlie, found herself lost in thought as she watched the raindrops slide down the window.
Charlie occasionally glanced at her, noticing that she seemed distracted. He asked, “What are you thinking about?”
“Ah?” Liu Manqiong snapped back to reality, straightening her hair. She smiled at Charlie and said softly, “Nothing, I’m just watching the rain.”
Curious, Charlie asked, “What’s so interesting about rain? Do you like rainy days?”
Liu Manqiong shook her head. “No, I don’t like them. I actually hate rainy days.”
“It’s raining on Hong Kong Island. It doesn’t seem to be very friendly to you since you hate the rain,” he smiled.
“Yeah,” Liu Manqiong replied, biting her lip. “When a lot of bad things happen on a rainy day, it can really bring a person down. It makes people dislike the rain even more.”
Charlie Wade seemed to sense her mood and quickly changed the subject. “By the way, Miss Manqiong, you’re about to graduate with your doctorate. What are your plans after graduation?”
Liu Manqiong was surprised by the sudden topic shift, but then she realized Charlie wanted to steer the conversation away from sad thoughts. She smiled and said, “I’ll graduate this summer. After that, I plan to go to Africa to continue my charity work and then come back to find a job related to my major.”
Charlie was curious. “Why look for a job? Wouldn’t it be better to join your father’s company? You are the eldest daughter, and he will likely hand the business over to you one day.”
Liu Manqiong shook her head with a smile. “I’m not really interested in how he runs things. I’ve focused on my studies in Chinese for my master’s and doctorate.”
She added with a touch of self-deprecation, “Besides, just look at me. I’m not cut out for business. I still have a monthly deficit of 200,000 Hong Kong dollars that my father has to cover. If he handed the business to me, I’m afraid it wouldn’t be long before he lost everything.”
