“You, be quiet!” Graham snapped, his gaze fixed on Adam. He then turned to Jack and said respectfully, “Thank you for your guidance. I will certainly be more mindful of these matters moving forward.”
Jack nodded thoughtfully before standing up and exiting the mansion.
Once Jack was gone, Adam wasted no time in speaking up. “Father, Mr. Yaleman is an esteemed master from Mystery Court. How can someone like Charlie, a known liar, even be mentioned in the same breath as him? What’s more, Mr. Yaleman is willing to assist us with our family issues without charging a dime!”
“Mr. Yaleman hasn’t taken a cent from us, yet Charlie has already swindled our family out of a fortune! He just blew over a hundred million dollars on a worthless clam at the auction today! This is nothing short of a scam! Second Uncle, why are you so eager to hand over money to him? Why do you trust him so much? If this news spreads, people in Aurous Hill will think the Quinton family is a bunch of fools!”
Graham remained silent but his face showed signs of doubt.
He recognized that Jack had a solid reputation within the country. Additionally, he couldn’t shake off the vivid vision Jack had shared with him earlier; it felt too real to dismiss.
Most importantly, Jack hadn’t charged them anything today, while Charlie had squandered so much of the Quinton family’s money at the auction.
The more Graham pondered the situation, the more he started to suspect that something was amiss with Charlie!
At that moment, the butler of the Quinton family knocked on the door and entered after receiving permission from Graham.
After delivering his message, he handed a paper box to Graham.
Frowning, Graham opened the box. Inside, he discovered a talisman.
As he examined the talisman closely, he realized it was merely a thin piece of shell, about the size of a matchbox, attached to a cheap red string. It looked like something sold at a typical tourist shop.
Upon checking the sender’s details, he was surprised to find it was from Charlie.
There was also a note included in the box that read: “Stun talisman. Hang it in the main hall to break and eliminate evil spirits.”
Adam exploded in anger as soon as he saw the talisman. “This is ridiculous, Father! Charlie is playing you for a fool! He’s sent you a worthless piece of clam shell—probably something bought from any random store! Do you really believe this will help us get rid of any evil spirits?”
“And do you honestly think this broken shell is worth a hundred million dollars? He clearly doesn’t care about you! Sending this talisman via courier shows he doesn’t have the guts to face you! If Charlie isn’t a fraud, why would he behave this way?”
Adam continued to shout, “Father, we should just send someone to beat Charlie up and reclaim our money! If he runs away, we’ll be in serious trouble!”
“Enough! I need to think this through,” Graham replied, rubbing his temples. He stared at the symbol on the shell, unsure if it held any real power.
After a moment of hesitation, Graham called all members of the Quinton family together and declared, “This is a critical situation for the Quinton family, and it’s of utmost importance. I will visit Charlie personally tomorrow to clarify what’s going on. For now, I want everyone to keep the peace talisman that Mr. Yaleman gave us on them at all times! Do not remove it!”
“Understood!”
“Father, I want to accompany you!” Adam interjected, gritting his teeth. “Charlie has caused us too much harm. I need to confront him and make him pay!”
“You? Do you think you can handle that?”
Graham frowned and replied, “If you insist on coming, you need to bring several bodyguards with you tomorrow. Make sure to find out where Charlie is so we can be ready to confront him.”
After saying this, Graham paused and cautioned Adam, “Remember, I’m not asking you to create trouble for Charlie. I don’t want you to act recklessly and end up getting hurt again!”
Adam felt thrilled and quickly responded, “I understand.”
Graham continued in a serious tone, “Even if the Quinton family isn’t the most prominent in Aurous Hill, I won’t tolerate anyone trying to deceive me. If someone tries to fool me, I will retaliate appropriately! Hence, I must uncover the truth about Charlie. If he has indeed been lying to me and treating me as a fool, I won’t let him get away with it!”
