The Amazing son in law Chapter 171
As Charlie stepped out of the White family mansion, he could feel the gaze of everyone lingering on him, filled with awe.
Meanwhile, Jasmine couldn’t help but steal glances at him while driving him home.
At that moment, Charlie had reverted to the same ordinary person he had always been, no longer projecting the powerful and formidable image he had just moments before.
Jasmine felt a twinge of suspicion creeping in.
Earlier, in the courtyard, Charlie had radiated an air of superiority and mystery.
Yet now, sitting beside her in the passenger seat, he appeared no different than any other passerby.
Jasmine wondered if this transformation was deliberate or simply an illusion.
Unable to contain her curiosity, she asked, “Charlie…did you really summon the thunder and lightning just now?”
Charlie turned to her with a smile.
“Why don’t you take a guess? Would you believe me if I said it was just a coincidence?”
Jasmine’s mind flashed back to the image of Charlie commanding the thunder and lightning.
He had stood there with such confidence, summoning the elements, and any woman witnessing that would undoubtedly find him irresistible.
Her heart raced slightly at the thought, but she quickly shook her head, dismissing it.
How absurd!
No physicist, no matter how brilliant, could control lightning!
If Charlie truly had the power to summon thunder and lightning at will, why was he the underprivileged son-in-law of the Wilson family?
Could it really have just been a coincidence?
…
As Charlie reached his home, he could hear his mother-in-law, Elaine, raising her voice from inside.
“I told you to find a capable husband, but you wouldn’t listen! Look at how impressive Rachel’s son-in-law is! He can even afford a four-bedroom place! Her house is over one hundred eighty square meters! And look at ours—barely one hundred and twenty! Do you know how humiliating that is for me?”
Elaine continued her rant, “Others can rely on their son-in-law, but the man you married is utterly useless! How can I depend on Charlie? If I have to rely on him, I fear I’ll never live in a nice house!”
Claire, Charlie’s wife, chimed in, her voice laced with dissatisfaction, “Mom, why do you always have to envy what others have? I’ve just been promoted to director! If we save for a few more years, we will definitely be able to buy a bigger house.”
Elaine scoffed, “You want me to wait a few more years? By then, I might be dead! Ever since you married Charlie, we’ve never had a single good day! Why are we still living in the same house you grew up in? All of my friends are living better lives than I am!”
Claire responded calmly, “Mom, why do you keep making those comparisons? Does it make you any happier?”
“I’m so tired of this!” Elaine yelled. “I hate feeling inferior to my friends! I can’t stand it!”
Charlie shook his head, feeling helpless, before he opened the door and stepped inside.
As soon as Elaine spotted him, she huffed, “So you’re finally home? Do you know what time it is now? When are you going to start cooking? I’m starving!”
Charlie smiled and replied, “Okay, Mom. I’ll start cooking right now.”
He headed straight to the kitchen.
Charlie knew Elaine well; she always felt uncomfortable and envious whenever someone had something she lacked.
If Elaine found out that Zeke intended to give him a villa, she would undoubtedly rush over, showering him with flattery to win his favor.
