Charlie offered a faint smile before reassuring her, “Don’t worry. Your husband has faced bullying for years. I’ve grown accustomed to it!”
“Okay then…” Claire responded with a nod.
Meanwhile, the property guide smiled as she addressed Wendy, saying, “Miss, it’s a well-known fact that the Thompson First Development Company considers villa owners as our most valued customers. That’s why we have exclusive amenities like a private swimming pool, a high-end gym, a sports club, golf courses, and Michelin-star restaurants from Italy, all specially available for villa residents!”
Wendy, feeling frustrated, retorted, “What does that imply? Are the high-rise condominium owners not considered people? We’re investing a significant amount in your properties too! Why can’t we access these facilities?”
The property guide replied, “I apologize, but we do have a clubhouse designated for the high-rise condominium residents. If you decide to purchase a unit in the high-rise, you’ll have access to that clubhouse.”
Wendy pressed further, “So, does this mean I won’t have access to any facilities in the villa area? What about the golf course?”
“That’s correct,” the property guide replied, “The amenities surrounding the villas are specifically reserved for villa owners. I truly apologize for the inconvenience.”
At this point, Harold, visibly irritated, interjected, “What are you doing? Are you aware that we’re planning to buy one of the two hundred and forty square meter units in your high-rise? Do you know how much that would cost? We’re about to invest a substantial amount in your property, yet you deny us access to the villa facilities. Do you really think I’ll still want to buy from you after this?”
The property guide maintained her smile and responded, “Sir, let me be frank. When we began this project, we were required by the city council to construct ordinary residential areas around the villas. We didn’t receive permission to exclusively develop the land for villas, as it would waste valuable space!”
“That’s why we built regular residential houses and high-rises surrounding the villas. Our primary focus has always been the villa owners.”
“If you cannot accept our terms, you’re welcome to purchase one of the villas instead. If not, you may choose to look elsewhere. To be candid, our properties are selling exceptionally well. Although we’ve just opened sales for the ordinary residential units, nearly eighty percent have already been purchased!”
Harold’s expression darkened instantly.
He had assumed that the property guide would cave to his threats of not buying the property. Instead, her indifferent demeanor took him by surprise.
Her message was straightforward: “If you want it, buy it. If not, you’re free to leave.”
Fuming, Harold turned to his parents and exclaimed, “Let’s go! I don’t want to buy any properties here anymore. We can find somewhere else to invest; it’s not like we lack the funds!”
Hannah looked at her son and replied, “Why should we leave? I want to buy one of the houses here. I don’t want to live anywhere else.”
Harold continued to plead with his mother, “Mom, do you really want to be just another person catering to the wealthy villa residents? You deserve better! Why settle for less with these residential houses?”
“You don’t understand anything!” Hannah shot back. “Even if the ordinary residential areas and high-rise condos don’t match the villas in terms of environment and amenities, this is the finest high-rise in Aurous Hill! The villa your grandmother left us is ancient. I’m tired of living there!”
Christopher chimed in, “Your grandmother’s villa is indeed very old, and the area is too isolated. There are no nearby facilities, and it takes forever to go just to get a pack of cigarettes! How can we possibly compare that to what we could enjoy here?”
“I support your mother’s decision. Let’s purchase a unit here!”
Seeing the situation unfold, Harold sighed. His earlier confrontational attitude towards the property guide now made him appear foolish in front of everyone.
Though he was still angry, a couple of familiar faces caught his attention. He suddenly called out, “Claire! Charlie! What are you doing here?”
Claire was taken aback by Harold’s shout. As he called out their names, his entire family turned to look at them. Claire felt compelled to smile and replied, “Charlie and I are just here to explore the properties.”
Harold chuckled derisively, “Really? Can you even afford to buy anything here? Your husband doesn’t even have a job and relies on you! Why are you still dreaming of owning a house in such a posh area like Thompson First?”
