Claire and her family enjoyed a delightful dinner at Kempinski while Wendell sulked at home, feeling deeply dejected. He had just seen a post on the official Emgrand Group page that left him feeling even worse. To his shock, Claire had managed to secure a sixty-million-dollar contract in just half an hour! The harsh and scornful comments he had made about her yesterday now echoed in his mind, leaving him utterly embarrassed—what a slap in the face it was!

At that moment, Wendell received a call from Harold, who was venting about his own frustrations. “Hey, Wendell! What the hell is going on? I set you up to pursue my cousin, but you turned your back on me and helped her land the Emgrand contract. How could you do this to me?” he complained as soon as Wendell answered.

Wendell shook his head in disbelief. “What are you talking about? I didn’t do anything!”

Harold pressed on, “Wendell, be honest with me. Did you sleep with my cousin?”

Wendell felt a surge of embarrassment wash over him. Denying it would mean admitting his own incompetence, which he couldn’t bear.

Instead, he mumbled sheepishly, “Yeah. Harold, I’m sorry; I’ll make it up to you whenever I can.”

“I knew it!” Harold sighed, then quickly asked, “Wendell, my cousin was a virgin, right? I can’t imagine she’d ever slept with that loser. You really hit the jackpot, you lucky dog!”

Wendell gasped, excitement bubbling up inside him. So, Claire Wilson was still a virgin! This was an opportunity—he could spread the word that he had been with Claire, which might drive a wedge between her and her husband.

With a sly grin, he giggled and told Harold, “Yes, your cousin was a virgin. She was so tight and cute I just couldn’t resist! Hahaha!”

Harold’s voice turned bitter as he responded, “Just don’t forget about me when you start reaping the benefits, okay, buddy?”

“Don’t worry!” Wendell replied casually.

Just as he hung up, his father called, sounding frantic. “Wendell, we have a serious problem! The Emgrand Group has canceled all their projects with us! Did you offend anyone recently?”

Wendell fell into stunned silence. Was this really happening? Did it mean his family was about to face a significant loss?

He hurriedly asked, “Dad, what’s going on? No, I didn’t offend anyone! Did you?”

His father sounded equally bewildered. “Neither did I! I’ve been stuck in the office and haven’t met anyone, let alone offend someone…”

“Hey, Dad, could it be that Emgrand’s new chairman is shaking things up after taking over?”

“Yes! That’s it!” Mr. Jones exclaimed, suddenly realizing. “I haven’t had a chance to meet the new chairman since his appointment. I’ve talked to Doris Young a few times, but she mentioned that the chairman doesn’t see visitors.”

“What should we do now?” Wendell asked.

Mr. Jones fell silent as he contemplated the situation, then said, “Oh, wait! The Wilson family is hosting a banquet tomorrow night, and they said they’ve invited the chairman. We need to find a way to meet him!”

“Alright!” Wendell agreed eagerly. “Let’s go together tomorrow!”

The following day, the entire Wilson family was ecstatic, celebrating what they considered a momentous occasion. The news of their victory with the Emgrand Group contract and the chairman’s invitation to their banquet had spread like wildfire throughout Aurous Hill!

For the banquet, Charlie chose his finest suit and arrived at the hotel where the event was being held. Stepping out of the car at the entrance, he was halted when a Porsche screeched to a stop right in front of him. Wendell Jones emerged from the vehicle, looking sharp in an expensive suit and sporting a slick hairstyle. A waiter promptly approached to greet him.

Wendell noticed Charlie and a look of disdain crossed his face as he scanned him. With a sly smile, he remarked, “Where did you find that counterfeit suit? You look like a dog trying to play dress-up.”

Charlie replied flatly, “What does it matter to you?”

Wendell smirked, a hint of mockery in his tone. “You may not be my concern, but your wife is a whole different story…”

Charlie frowned and asked, “What story?”

Onlookers began to take notice, intrigued by their exchange. Rumors had begun circulating since the previous night, suggesting that Claire had secured the contract due to her intimate connection with Wendell. After all, how else could Emgrand Group work with her if it was based solely on her and the Wilson Group’s capabilities? It seemed plausible enough.

As the crowd gathered, Wendell raised his voice, “Do you really believe Claire could win the Emgrand contract on her own?”

Charlie glared at Wendell, unamused. “Why not?”

Wendell’s smile widened into a cocky grin. “Because of me, obviously! Claire is my woman now, and I pulled every string I could to help her succeed in the negotiations! If you have any sense, you should divorce her as soon as possible.”

Although many had guessed as much, they couldn’t help but gasp when Wendell stated it so boldly. It was true! Claire had won the contract by sleeping with Wendell Jones!

“Because of you?” Charlie chuckled darkly. “Who do you think you are?”
