As Charlie noticed Claire’s distress, he offered her a reassuring smile. “Don’t fret about the villa, my dear wife. Mr. White has no intention of causing any trouble over it.”

Jacob shook his head vehemently. “No, Charlie. Remember the last time you assisted the Quinton family with their Feng Shui issue? You spent a staggering one hundred million dollars of their money just for a bid on that clamshell. And now, the White family is gifting you a villa as a token of gratitude! Both families hold significant prestige in Aurous Hill, and I worry they might come to regret this and demand everything back!”

He pressed further, “You should return the villa to the White family promptly. Otherwise, we could all be in serious trouble if they decide to hold us accountable!”

At that moment, Charlie’s mother-in-law interjected, “What do you mean?! Why should we give the villa back to the White family? Mr. Zeke was the one who bestowed this villa upon Charlie. He didn’t steal it! This villa is going to be our future home!”

Elaine could hardly believe that she was finally in a position to live in such a lavish villa. Now, Jacob was suggesting her son-in-law return it? To her, that felt like a death sentence.

Claire sighed, “Mom! We shouldn’t be accepting gifts like this! It’s bound to lead to complications down the road.”

“Complications? Nonsense!” Elaine retorted, glancing at Charlie. “Oh, Charlie, I never realized how capable you truly are! Who would have thought you could acquire such a magnificent villa for us to enjoy?”

Beaming, Elaine exclaimed, “I really have an amazing son-in-law! You should have started giving Feng Shui advice to others sooner. We could have been wealthy ages ago!”

Unable to contain his frustration any longer, Jacob interjected. “Wife! This isn’t solely about the villa! Even if Charlie genuinely provided Feng Shui consultation, it’s still inappropriate for him to accept something like this. If the White family changes their mind, we’ll be in a precarious situation!”

Elaine, incensed by Jacob’s words, sprang to her feet. “Don’t give me those ridiculous excuses! I’ve endured a life of struggle and poverty with you! Now that I finally have a chance to live in luxury, you want me to give it up? Jacob, if you pressure Charlie to relinquish this villa, I’ll divorce you on the spot!”

Jacob was left speechless, caught off guard by Elaine’s outburst. “You… you… you are the most materialistic woman I have ever known!”

In his frustration, Jacob plopped down on the sofa, feeling defeated.

Charlie smiled reassuringly. “Dad, there’s no need to worry. This villa isn’t going anywhere.”

Elaine beamed with pride. “My wonderful son-in-law, you truly are impressive!”

As Elaine admired the villa, running her fingers over the exquisite antiques and calligraphy adorning the walls, she joyfully exclaimed, “Let Christopher show off all he wants! I’m the one living in this beautiful villa while his family can only manage a unit in a high-rise! Today is a day of happiness for me!”

Seeing her mother so ecstatic, Claire could no longer contain her curiosity. She pulled Charlie aside and whispered, “Charlie, please tell me what’s really happening.”

Charlie, keeping his voice low, replied, “My dear Claire, you don’t need to worry. This is a legitimate gift, and I didn’t deceive anyone to obtain it. However, I can’t explain everything right now. I promise to share the full details with you in the future.”

“Alright, I trust you,” Claire said after a moment’s thought. “But Charlie, I really don’t think you should continue providing Feng Shui advice to others. It makes my dad and me anxious.”

Taking her hand, Charlie assured her, “Don’t worry, Claire. I won’t do anything to cause you concern. Your dad is already pushing us to have a child. What would happen if something were to occur to me?”

“Stop being silly.”

Claire blushed and gently withdrew her hand from Charlie’s grasp.

Meanwhile, Elaine was bubbling with excitement as she made her way down the stairs.

“Once I return from my trip next week, I’m going to invite everyone I know to see this marvelous new villa!”

Claire quickly interjected, “Mom! But this villa was given to Charlie…”

Elaine replied confidently, “He is our son-in-law, so whatever is given to him naturally belongs to us as well.”
