At this point, it was common knowledge in Aurous Hill that the Wilson family’s downfall was inevitable. News that the matriarch had been hospitalized upon learning of the Wilson Group’s fate also circulated quickly.

Charlie’s father-in-law, Jacob, received the news with an unexpected calmness.

He addressed his daughter and son-in-law, saying, “My mother has always had a need to control others throughout her life. It was only a matter of time before her actions caught up with her! We shouldn’t feel the least bit sympathetic. It might do her good to spend some time in the hospital reflecting on her life choices!”

Charlie felt a sense of relief; it was uncommon for Jacob to take a step back regarding issues involving his mother.

After this moment of relief, Claire quietly began her job hunt.

Later that evening, after Charlie finished preparing dinner, he heard the door open behind him.

Turning around, he saw Jacob entering, wearing a broad smile.

Curious about Jacob’s cheerful demeanor, Charlie asked, “Dad, why are you in such a good mood after your walk? Did something good happen?”

“Hahaha! I’ve had an incredibly lucky day!” Jacob replied joyfully. “After taking that pill you gave me, all my pain disappeared completely. I feel so refreshed and full of energy!”

“Can you guess who I bumped into at Antique Street just now?”

“Who?” Charlie asked, his worry rising. He feared that Jacob had fallen victim to the counterfeit dealers and stall owners at Antique Street once more.

Charlie scanned Jacob’s appearance and breathed a sigh of relief when he realized his father-in-law returned home empty-handed.

Jacob took a sip of his tea before speaking in a conspiratorial tone, “Son-in-law, do you recall the antique stall owner we visited before? I’m talking about Zachary, the conman from Antique Street. Do you remember him?”

“Yes, I remember. What’s going on?”

“Haha! I ran into that kid today at Antique Street!”

Charlie was taken aback and quickly asked, “Dad! Did you end up buying something from him again?”

“No!” Jacob exclaimed, waving his hands in delight. “Zachary knows I’m your father-in-law, so he wouldn’t dare rip me off again. Instead, he gifted me a jade pendant and even offered to help me sell some medicine!”

Charlie frowned at the news. He was skeptical about the jade pendant, suspecting it was likely fake, but he found it odd that Zachary would want to sell medicine for Jacob.

“What medicine are you referring to?”

“The pills you made for my injuries! I know they’re meant to ease my heart,” Jacob replied, slapping his thigh in excitement. “My injuries are fully healed! When Zachary heard about my recovery and the effectiveness of the pills, he offered to sell them for me. I gave him two pills, not thinking he would actually sell them!”

Charlie was left speechless.

The pills weren’t rare or valuable, and he would have been okay with Jacob discarding them if he didn’t finish them. Yet, Charlie couldn’t help but be astounded by Zachary’s ability to exploit any opportunity, including selling leftover medicine!

“Dad, there’s no certification for these pills. How could you possibly sell them?”

Jacob shrugged, “I’m not sure about that, but Zachary managed to sell them anyway. Want to take a guess at how much I got for them?”

“Over a thousand dollars?”

“Not even close!” Jacob laughed triumphantly. “I sold them for half a million dollars!”

“Pfft!”

Charlie, who had been sipping water, couldn’t contain himself and spat it out upon hearing Jacob’s astonishing claim.

He was in disbelief. The pills probably cost less than a hundred dollars, yet Zachary had succeeded in selling them for half a million?!
