Jasmine beamed after hearing Charlie’s unique request. With enthusiasm, she replied, “Alright, let’s do it! Since this is our first glass of wine, I’ll kick things off!”
Taking a moment to compose herself, Jasmine cleared her throat, a sweet smile gracing her lips as she announced, “This first glass is a heartfelt thank you for saving my grandfather today! I also want to express my gratitude for the big favor you did for me!”
Charlie nodded appreciatively, a smile breaking across his face as he said, “Great! Let’s raise our glasses and enjoy this red wine right away!”
With that, Charlie lifted his glass and gently clinked it against Jasmine’s before downing the entire glass of red wine in one swift motion.
Jasmine followed suit, finishing her glass just as quickly. With a smile, she then asked, “Mr. Wade, what’s the reason for our second glass of red wine?”
“Alright,” Charlie responded with a grin. “This second glass is to celebrate fate and destiny! Despite the vast number of people in this world, it’s purely by fate that we’ve crossed paths and come to know each other. So, let’s toast to that!”
“Absolutely!” Jasmine exclaimed with a bright smile. “Let’s raise our glasses to fate!”
Without hesitation, Jasmine refilled their glasses before declaring, “Now, this third glass is dedicated to celebrating Mr. Wade’s incredible skills and talents! Today, I witnessed your amazing ability to heal and save lives. I’m even more convinced that Jack Yaleman’s unfortunate fate of being struck by lightning wasn’t just a coincidence! Care to explain, Mr. Wade?”
Charlie chuckled casually. “Well, who can say if it was mere coincidence? Only the heavens know for sure! As for us mere mortals, it’s a secret best kept under wraps!”
Jasmine nodded with a laugh, gazing into Charlie’s eyes. “In that case, let’s drink to keep this secret safe!”
“Cheers to that!”
As the evening progressed and the wine flowed, Jasmine began to feel a pleasant buzz. Although she usually held her liquor well, she had indulged in several glasses quite quickly.
Now, it was Jasmine’s turn to propose a toast. With wide eyes and a tipsy grin, she said to Charlie, “You know, Mr. Wade, I’ve come to realize that you’re actually a pretty decent person.”
“Pretty decent?” Charlie chuckled, intrigued. “What do you mean by that? In what ways am I good?”
“You’re good in so many ways,” Jasmine replied earnestly. “You’re far more interesting than the usual people I encounter. Many of them try to charm me or treat me kindly because they have hidden agendas. That’s why I believe you’re genuinely a good person.”
“Oh really?” Charlie laughed. “So, do you think I don’t have any hidden motives for wanting to get closer to you?”
Jasmine nodded thoughtfully and said, “I sense that you might be a bit distant from the world, as if you’re concealing something.”
