“Do we?” Charlie laughed. “You started this, and they’re just pushing you to keep your promise. Why so bitter?”
Clinton lowered his gaze. He realized there was no escaping this predicament, so he swallowed his pride and said meekly, “I apologize. I was impulsive and upset. Charlie, I’m sorry for underestimating you. Guys, I’m sorry; I hope you can forgive me.”
The crowd was taken aback by Clinton’s unexpected humility. Was this really the arrogant Clinton Tucker? They couldn’t remember a time when he was so submissive!
But Clinton felt he had no choice.

If he didn’t back down, he’d have to eat the table, which was absolutely out of the question.

Clinton let out a sigh of relief, but inside, his blood was boiling, and he envisioned getting back at Charlie.
Charlie wasn’t planning to let Clinton off the hook either. He sent a message to Doris: “Is there a deputy general manager with the last name Tucker? His son is Clinton Tucker. Can you look into this for me?”
