As evening approached, Charlie Wade estimated that his wife, Claire, should have returned from work by now. He bid farewell to Lin Wan’er (Alani) and asked Don Albert to drive him back to Tomson Yipin.
Upon arriving at the entrance of his villa, he noticed only Claire’s BMW parked in the yard, with no sign of the Cullinan that his father-in-law Jacob usually drove. This led Charlie to believe that only his wife was home. He took a moment to tidy himself up, giving his appearance a slightly disheveled look, before heading to the door.
Just as he was about to push the door open, he heard a voice from inside that he recognized but didn’t expect to hear. The voice said, “Claire, why don’t you ask Charlie Wade when he’s finished and tell him to come back as soon as possible? If he can make it, we can go together; if not, we’ll go without him.”
The speaker was Claire’s close friend, Loreen.
Charlie felt puzzled, wondering where Loreen was planning to take Claire. Then he heard Claire respond, “It’s not convenient for Charlie Wade to communicate in the northwest. Besides, he has something important to take care of. I can’t rush him for this.”
Deciding to make his presence known, Charlie pushed the door open and smiled, saying, “What’s going on? You’re being so mysterious.”
As soon as Claire and Loreen heard his voice, they both lit up with excitement and exclaimed almost in unison:
“Husband, you’re back!”
“Charlie Wade, you’re back!”
Charlie smiled back, replying, “Yes, I just returned.”
Claire rushed out and said, “Husband, why didn’t you let me know you were coming back? I could have picked you up at the airport!”
Charlie chuckled, explaining, “Don Albert brought me back. He was very attentive and waited for me at the airport before my flight took off, so I didn’t tell you. I wanted to surprise you.”
Loreen also got up from the sofa, her big eyes sparkling with joy as she said, “Charlie Wade, it’s been a while!”
Charlie nodded and asked, smiling, “When did Loreen arrive?”
“I just got here,” Loreen replied. “Claire and I were just discussing you. Tawanna Sweet is having a concert at the Tokyo Dome in three days. I managed to get three tickets! I wanted to see if you and Claire would like to go together. It’s not far to Tokyo, and we’ll be there in no time.”
“Tawanna Sweet?” Charlie was taken aback. Tawanna is currently one of the most popular country singers in the United States, arguably the most famous female artist in the world. Her record sales, awards, and fan base surpass even that of Stefanie. She gained fame at a young age and has been a global sensation for years. It’s said that her concert tickets are even harder to come by than those of the Chinese pop king.
In addition to her numerous hit songs, Tawanna’s dramatic personal life frequently makes headlines worldwide. Her music is immensely popular, but her celebrity status is even more significant.
Loreen continued with enthusiasm, “Tawanna’s world tour has already had several shows in Asia. I couldn’t get tickets before, but this time, I asked a good friend in Japan to help me secure them. They’re connected to the show’s organizers there, and they mentioned there will be a super VIP private meet-and-greet with Tawanna before the concert. You’ll get the chance to meet her, shake her hand, and even get her autograph!”
Charlie casually remarked, “If she’s touring in Asia, wouldn’t it be easier to wait for her concert in China?”
Loreen shook her head, saying, “She doesn’t have any concerts planned in China this time; her options are South Korea or Japan. I don’t have any connections for the concert in Korea.”
Then Loreen turned to Charlie and asked, “Are you free in two days? We could fly over the day after tomorrow, take a day off, enjoy the concert in the evening, and spend the next day shopping and eating before heading back.”
Charlie looked at Claire and asked, “What do you think, Claire?”
Claire bit her lip and softly said, “Hubby… I really love Tawanna, and I’ve never seen her live. This is a rare opportunity. Can you go with me and Loreen?”
Seeing Claire’s eagerness, Charlie nodded without hesitation, saying, “Absolutely! If you want to go, then we’re going.”
“Fantastic!” Loreen cheered, her excitement palpable. “I’ll book the tickets and hotel right away!”
Charlie interjected, “Loreen, since you secured the tickets through your contacts, let me handle the accommodations.”
Loreen replied, “Charlie Wade, we’re close friends, so why do you still want to be so formal with me?”
Charlie smiled and explained, “It’s not about being distant; it’s about fairness. When I go out with friends, if they cover accommodation, I’ll take care of the meals. If meals are on them, then I handle the lodging. It’s only fair that we share the expenses. While we all have enough money, it’s still a matter of principle.”
