Tawana was caught off guard when Charlie Wade posed a question to her instead of responding directly.

Given the delicate nature of illegal immigration, which is nearly as contentious as LGBT issues, she was careful not to say anything that could be deemed politically incorrect. She knew the backlash could be severe.

With a serious demeanor, she stated, “I believe the immigration issue should be handled by the US government. The United States has specific laws designed to address such matters. As long as fairness and justice are maintained throughout the enforcement process, it should be resolved adequately.” After making her point,

she glanced at Charlie Wade with a hint of pride and inquired, “What is Mr. Wade’s perspective on LGBT issues?”

Charlie Wade smiled and responded, “If you believe everything should be left to the law, then you shouldn’t ask me about LGBT matters or advocate for anything. Isn’t there a law for every situation? We should let the law handle what it can, and focus on our own responsibilities without interfering in legal affairs.”

“…” Tawana found herself momentarily speechless. She hadn’t anticipated that her attempt at manipulation would backfire, with Charlie Wade mirroring her tactics.

Moreover, it seemed that Charlie Wade’s comments were subtly criticizing her for overstepping her boundaries.

Just when she was unsure how to respond, Charlie Wade continued, “In fact, it’s somewhat unjust for you to claim that leaving the issue of illegal immigration to the law is fair. At the very least, your personal stance toward LGBT individuals and illegal immigrants is inconsistent.”

“That’s not fair!” Tawana quickly retorted. “What I mean is that every group deserves full respect and should adapt to the relevant laws and regulations for their own safety.”

Charlie Wade chuckled and replied, “Celebrities like you frequently call on American states to amend legal provisions for LGBT rights, yet I’ve never heard you advocate for changes in laws concerning illegal immigrants. You ask the government to ensure equal rights for LGBT individuals, which is commendable and humane. But why are LGBT and illegal immigrants treated so differently? Is it simply because illegal immigrants lack American citizenship? If your notion of equality hinges on citizenship, then isn’t that view rather superficial?”

“Uh…” Tawana was at a loss for words in the face of Charlie Wade’s challenging questions. Despite her years of success in the entertainment industry and her world-class singing talent, it was evident that she didn’t truly embrace the concept of being convincing in her arguments. What does being convincing mean? It means that any point you make must be substantiated. Simply shouting demands without any rationale is akin to being a bully.

After pondering deeply with a troubled expression, Tawana finally said, “You know, the significance of the LGBT community is broader. Our support for LGBT extends beyond just the individuals in the United States, but encompasses LGBT people globally.”

Charlie Wade nodded in agreement, saying, “Yes, the illegal immigrants I mentioned are not limited to those in the United States; they exist in various countries around the world. So, what differentiates them?”

Tawana shot a sidelong glance at Charlie Wade, thinking he would be easily swayed like the previous two women, merely offering a few supportive words to let the issue slide. However, to her surprise, he proved to be stubborn and unyielding in their debate.

Noticing her silence, Charlie Wade said, “Ms. Sweet, if my previous question is challenging for you to answer, you’re not obligated to respond. However, I do have one question that I need you to clarify.”

Tawana responded eagerly, “Please, go ahead.”

Charlie Wade asked, “In your view, are illegal immigrants and LGBT individuals equal? Just give me a simple yes or no.”

Tawana felt conflicted once again.

To claim they are equal would be absurd.

The majority of Americans have negative feelings toward illegal immigrants.

In fact, it could be said that most individuals residing in their own country dislike unauthorized migrants entering their nation.

However, while this may be true, expressing such sentiments openly is another matter.

In Western societies, there are many things one cannot say openly.

For instance, as a woman, you might not want a man dressed as a woman to enter the women’s restroom alongside you. This line of reasoning is completely rational and entirely valid, yet it’s not something you can voice.

Once expressed, numerous self-righteous individuals will criticize you, arguing that the person is already suffering by dressing as a woman and has to endure using a women’s restroom. It’s a tough situation, so how can you deny them access? Where’s your compassion?

Having been raised in such an environment, Tawana was well aware of the complexities of public opinion.

Ultimately, she could only say reluctantly, “I believe illegal immigrants and LGBT individuals are equal. After all, we are all human beings and should be treated equally.”

Charlie Wade nodded and remarked, “It’s commendable that you hold such views. I think someone should document our conversation and share it online to inform everyone that you also support illegal immigrants. And I recall you openly advocating for LGBT rights at almost every concert. I admire and agree with your stance. But if you see illegal immigrants and LGBT individuals as equals, why haven’t you spoken out for illegal immigrants at your concerts?”
