The following morning, Claire arrived at the Emgrand Group office alongside Charlie, carrying the file filled with proposals she had diligently prepared overnight. As they stood before the towering 100-story building, Claire felt a wave of doubt wash over her. How could a prestigious company like Emgrand consider collaborating with the Wilson family, especially for a hefty thirty million dollar deal?
It felt akin to a beggar approaching a wealthy individual and requesting a thirty million dollar handout—utterly absurd. Yet, she had made a promise to her grandmother and accepted this daunting challenge publicly, so she had to push through, no matter the odds stacked against her.
With a resigned sigh, Claire replied, “Alright, let’s hope for the best! Please wait for me here.”
Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself and stepped through the entrance. Meanwhile, Charlie pulled out his phone and dialed Miss Young.

“Miss Young, my wife is on her way to see you right now. Please ensure everything goes smoothly.”
“Yes, Mr. Wade. You can count on me; I’ll meet all your expectations.”
“By the way, I heard that Emgrand Group has a close relationship with the Jones family. Is that true?”
“Indeed, we have collaborated on numerous projects with them, both completed and ongoing. They have expressed interest in partnering with us again on this new megaproject and have submitted their proposals for my evaluation. However, the final decision rests with you, Mr. Wade.”
Charlie’s tone turned icy as he replied, “I do not want the Jones family involved in this new project or any future projects.”
“Understood. I will follow your instructions without fail!”

Meanwhile, Claire entered the Emgrand Group office and checked in at the front desk, uncertain if Doris Young, the vice-chairman, would even see her.
Before long, a poised female assistant approached her. “Hello, are you Miss Claire Wilson? Miss Young is expecting you in her office; please follow me.”
Claire nodded, momentarily dazed. How could Miss Young know she was there? Was it possible that Doris was aware of her impending visit? It seemed unlikely for someone of Doris Young’s stature to know about her, but this was a rare chance she couldn’t afford to miss. She quickly followed the assistant to Miss Young’s office.
Doris rose from her chair and greeted Claire warmly. “Hello, Miss Wilson. I’m Doris Young, the vice-chairman of Emgrand Group. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Feeling a bit nervous in the presence of such a renowned business figure, Claire managed to speak, albeit with a trembling voice. “Hello, Miss Young. Thank you for meeting with me. I’m here to discuss the hotel project. While the Wilson Group may not be as powerful as some of the other companies, I assure you that we work diligently and have built a solid reputation in the interior design and decoration sector!”
She handed over her document file and added, “Here’s our portfolio for your review.”
Doris smiled kindly as she examined the documents. After a quick look, she stated, “Miss Wilson, I believe you would be the ideal partner for us.”
“Really? Is that true?” Claire asked, astonished. This was progressing far too smoothly for her comfort.
Doris continued with a smile, “While I admit that the Wilson Group does not fully meet our requirements, our chairman has a high regard for you and is willing to give this a chance.”
“Your chairman?” Claire echoed, surprised. “May I ask who that is?”
Doris replied with a faint smile, “Our chairman is Mr. Wade from Eastcliff.”
“Mr. Wade?” Claire’s brow furrowed in confusion. “I don’t believe I know anyone by the last name of Wade, other than my husband.”
Doris nodded subtly. Charlie had instructed her to keep his identity under wraps, so she could only reveal so much. Claire was unaware that the “Mr. Wade” she referred to was actually her husband, whom she considered rather insignificant.
Doris then pointed out, “In your proposal, I noticed your quoted figure for the agreement is thirty million dollars?”
Claire nodded, feeling anxious. “Is that too high?”
Doris shook her head with a smile. “Not at all! In fact, it’s less than our budget.”
Claire was puzzled. “What do you mean?”
“Our chairman has instructed me to adjust the quotation to sixty million dollars.”
In the midst of their conversation, Doris handed Claire a contract. “Here, we’ve prepared a contract in advance for a total of sixty million dollars. If it meets your approval, we can sign it right now.”
“Huh? This…” Claire exclaimed, utterly shocked. She had never imagined that a company as formidable as Emgrand Group would have a contract ready beforehand—especially for an amount that had doubled! Her grandmother’s target for this project had been thirty million dollars, yet the contract clearly stated sixty million dollars.
Suddenly, memories of her husband’s earnest expression from their family meeting the night before flooded back to her. Why had he seemed so confident? As she stood at the entrance of Emgrand Group, her own doubts had been overwhelming, while he appeared unshaken. Could he have known all along how this would turn out? Who was he, really…?
