In the early morning hours, charlie Wade’s flight landed smoothly in Aurous Hill.

Feeling nervous, he quickly got into a taxi after leaving the airport and headed back to his villa at Tomson Yipin.

Along the way, he kept thinking about how he would explain himself if Claire questioned him.

After careful thought, he decided that denying everything was still the best option. Otherwise, if Claire asked why he had such close interactions with Tawanna over four consecutive performances, he would have no way to explain.

When charlie Wade stepped inside, he noticed that no one was on the first floor and figured everyone had already gone to their rooms. He changed into slippers and quietly headed upstairs toward his and Claire’s bedroom.

Just as he gently pushed open the door, Claire happened to be approaching. The two met at the doorway, and Claire visibly tensed with embarrassment.

In a slight panic, she tucked her hair behind her ear and said awkwardly, “Husband, you must be tired after coming back so late, right?”

charlie Wade noticed her odd behavior but pretended not to and replied with a smile, “I’m not tired at all. I always feel relaxed once I’m home.”

Seeing charlie Wade’s natural, easygoing smile, Claire’s heart was even more conflicted — torn between doubting her own suspicions and debating whether she should question him.

So instead, she looked at charlie Wade, smiled, and asked, “Are you heading to Shanghai again in a few days?”

“Yes,” charlie Wade nodded. “If you take someone’s money, you have to see the job through to the end.”

Claire, feeling a little distressed, said, “Thank you for your hard work. Go take a shower and get some rest.”

Seeing that Claire had no intention of questioning him, charlie Wade felt a wave of relief.

After showering, he came out of the bathroom to find Claire lying on the bed reading a book.

charlie Wade lay down beside her and asked, “Wife, while I was away these past few days, was everything okay at home?”

Claire nodded and replied, “Everything was fine. My parents occasionally bicker or trade sarcastic remarks, but nothing serious.”

“That’s good,” charlie Wade said with a nod.

Suddenly remembering something, Claire added, “Oh, by the way, my mom said she doesn’t want to spend the New Year in Aurous Hill this year.”

“Not celebrating in Aurous Hill?” charlie Wade recalled that Elaine had mentioned wanting to go somewhere warmer. He asked, “Is Mom still thinking about heading south?”

“Yes,” Claire nodded. “She’s getting tired of spending New Year here every year and now wants to go to the Maldives. Aurous Hill just opened a direct flight there, and the local news has been pushing it these past few days. She saw it and got tempted.”

She continued, “There are two round-trip flights each week. We could leave on the 28th of the twelfth lunar month and return on the third day of the new lunar year. She wants me to get your opinion.”

charlie Wade chuckled and asked, “Does Mom really want you to ask for my opinion, or does she want you to persuade me?”
