An Understated Dominance - Chapter 2316
Veronica couldn’t accept her defeat in the match. She was definitely stronger than Azalea, with an 80% chance of winning if they faced off directly. However, Azalea had a mix of divine artifacts, pills, and surprise techniques that made her tough to beat.
In the end, Veronica was too worn out and had to give in. The frustration ate away at her.
“Mr. Marshall, it seems your Celestial Alliance disciples aren’t as strong as they claim to be,” Cyrus said with a smirk. He had a long-standing rivalry with Alloy, always competing with him both publicly and privately. So, watching Alloy falter brought him some pleasure.
“One unexpected loss doesn’t mean much. Besides, your Sword Union might not do any better,” Alloy replied calmly. Veronica was his favorite student, so her early loss was a blow to his pride.
“Really? Let’s see who wins in the end,” Cyrus smiled, eagerly anticipating Alloy’s reaction when Fenley lost to Glenn.
Aurora sighed, looking disappointed. “I didn’t expect this outcome. It’s such a shame.” She had thought Veronica’s advanced skills and spear techniques would lead to victory, making the loss hard to swallow.
“Veronica did her best. The Mystic Arts Order disciple just had too many tricks. She played to her strengths and was able to counter Veronica perfectly, which led to this result,” Alicia said, shaking her head. Competition was unpredictable; even being stronger didn’t guarantee a win.
“Fenley, Dr. Rhys, I’m relying on both of you,” Aurora said, looking around. The remaining Celestial Alliance disciples had already been knocked out of the top eight, leaving only Fenley and Dustin in the competition.
In the tournament, Aurora felt confident that Fenley would make it to the top eight. However, she knew that having just one member advance wouldn’t be enough to show the strength of their guild. She hoped Dustin would also break into the top eight and secure a spot.
“I’ll do my best,” Dustin said with a slight nod.
Just then, Alicia spoke up, “Dr. Rhys, you drew number 8, right?”
“Yes, what’s wrong?” he replied.
“I’ve been watching closely. Your opponent is a vampire. As you might know, vampires are really tough. They thrive in darkness and can’t be harmed by ordinary weapons. Without something special, you might be at a disadvantage,” Alicia explained.
She then pulled out a dagger and handed it to him quietly. “I heard that vampires are vulnerable to silver. I brought this silver weapon for you. Keep it and use it when you need it.”
“A silver weapon?” Dustin raised an eyebrow, surprised by her thoughtfulness.
He hadn’t expected her to notice his opponent and take the time to prepare a countermeasure.
“Alicia, when did you get this silver weapon? How come I didn’t know about it?” Aurora asked, astonished.
“Such things need to stay secret. If the vampire found out, it would be on guard, and the surprise would be lost,” Alicia explained softly.
“True,” Aurora nodded in agreement.
“Thanks,” Dustin said, accepting the silver dagger and putting it away.
He had heard that vampires were weak against silver, but he knew that this weakness decreased with their strength. High-ranking vampires, like earls and dukes, weren’t afraid of silver. Even if they were decapitated or had their hearts destroyed, as long as they could access blood, they could survive. These beings were almost immortal.
But Bill wasn’t an earl; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been beaten by Fenley the other night.
“Contestant number…”
“Contestant number 31 has won!” Oron announced loudly as he jumped onto the battle ring.
The crowd erupted into loud applause.
Veronica had many fans, but Azalea’s stunning looks and impressive skills won her plenty of admirers too. When she was declared the winner, the audience celebrated enthusiastically.
As cheers filled the air, Azalea smiled and walked down from the battle ring. She returned to her seat among the members of the Mystic Arts Order. If the Mystic Arts Order wasn’t so feared, many young champions would have rushed forward to congratulate her.
“Great job, Azalea! Our guild can hold its head high today,” Abigail said with a smile as Azalea took her place.
“Thank you, Grand Sorceress. I didn’t think I would win. But your gifts—the Elysian amulet and the Gerandium—helped me turn things around and bring honor to our order,” Azalea replied, nodding respectfully.
Even though Abigail treated her like a sister, Azalea knew her place. She was careful not to take advantage of Abigail’s kindness. Being arrogant could lead to trouble.
“Azalea, your next opponent will be even tougher,” Abigail warned. “Everyone knows about your Elysian amulet and Gerandium now, so they won’t catch anyone by surprise.”
“But don’t worry. I have other treasures that might help. Look and take what you need.” Abigail then revealed a collection of valuable items.
The elders of the Mystic Arts Order were amazed. Each item had the power to shake the martial world. Yet, to Abigail, they were like simple vegetables; she handed them out without hesitation.
