An Understated Dominance - Chapter 248
Justin felt sorry for Maximus as he looked into his tear-filled eyes. Maximus had not only been taken advantage of by his mentor, but he had also lost his fiancée. It was heartbreaking.
No one should have to endure the pain of losing their future spouse. It was hard to believe that the second-in-command of Boulderthorn could be such a cruel and dishonorable man.
“Just focus on getting better for now. Once you’re healed, you can get back what you’ve lost,” Dustin said, giving Maximus a supportive pat on the shoulder.
Maximus let out a sorrowful cry. “I’ll never get better! My core is shattered, and my nerves are damaged! Without my internal energy, I can’t seek revenge. I’m worthless!”
He clenched his fists so tightly that his nails dug into his palms, drawing blood. He desperately wanted justice but felt like he had lost his chance.
“Who said you’re worthless? I can heal your injuries,” Dustin said calmly.
“What did you say?” Maximus looked up, surprised.
“I can heal your injuries and restore your core,” Dustin repeated.
“Are you serious? You’re not joking, right?” Maximus’s eyes widened with shock and hope.
“Your core is damaged, but it’s not completely lost. There’s still a chance. Healing your nerves is even easier. If you follow my treatment, you can regain full strength in ten days,” Dustin promised.
Maximus’s face brightened at this news. He thanked Dustin over and over. “If you heal me, I’ll owe you my life. I’ll do anything for you, whether it’s climbing mountains or diving into the ocean!”
“Whatever you ask of me, I’ll do it without complaint!” Maximus said, sounding serious. As a martial artist and a sword enthusiast, he focused mainly on becoming the best swordsman he could be. But when he found out that his core was destroyed, he felt hopeless and even thought about ending his life. Thankfully, Dustin’s words brought back his hope and the will to live.
“Alright, that’s enough. I’m not a sadist. Why would I send you to the mountains or the ocean?” Dustin helped Maximus to his feet. “It’s fate that you fainted right in front of my medical center. It was meant to be that I rescued you. Get some rest, and don’t use your internal energy for the next two days.”
“Thank you! You’re my savior!” Maximus bowed several times to Dustin, who simply wrote a prescription for Caitlyn and reminded her to prepare the medicine on schedule.
Suddenly, they heard a loud crash from outside. Alarmed, they rushed out to see what happened. Two cars—a red BMW and a white Honda—had collided nearby. It looked like the red BMW had reversed into the white Honda, causing it to flip over. Both cars were badly damaged, and debris was scattered everywhere.
“Help! Please help my daughter!” A woman in white stumbled out of the white Honda, bleeding and disoriented. Inside the car, a young girl, no older than eight, was unconscious. She appeared to be in serious trouble, as a sharp object had pierced her abdomen.
The woman cried out for help while trying to save her daughter, but the car door was too bent for her to open.
“Crap!” Dustin exclaimed as his expression turned serious. He quickly jogged toward the overturned Honda, where a crowd had gathered around the accident. A few kind-hearted people were trying to help, but their efforts were not enough to free the girl trapped inside the car. The door remained locked, and the vehicle was on its side.
As smoke started to pour from the car, things began to look very dangerous. “I’ll give it a try,” Dustin said, moving closer. He pulled hard on the door handle, and to everyone’s surprise, the door came off entirely.
Dustin wasted no time. He opened the door, unbuckled the young girl’s seat belt, and carefully lifted her out to the side of the road. She was in bad shape, with a head injury, several broken bones, and significant blood loss. The situation was critical.
“Quick! Call an ambulance and get her to the hospital!” someone shouted.
“We don’t have time for that. I’m a doctor. Let me help,” Dustin announced, pulling out a gold needle for first aid.
At that moment, two women stepped out of a shiny red BMW. The mother, Jane Engleton, was a round woman in her fifties, while her daughter was a stylish woman in her twenties. They looked wealthy, dressed in designer clothes and sparkling jewelry.
“Hey! Do you even know how to drive? Are you blind?” Jane shouted at the woman in white, who was involved in the accident. “Do you have any idea how much our car costs? One million dollars! It’s brand new!” She continued angrily, “You’re going to pay for turning our car into scrap metal! If you don’t, I’ll make sure your family goes to prison!”
The woman in white was shocked by Jane’s harsh words and began to apologize repeatedly.
“I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to do it. I just didn’t see your car,” the woman in white said, her voice shaking.
“Is sorry enough?” Jane shot back. “Do you think we’re pushovers? I’m telling you now, you need to pay for my car. Plus, for all the stress you caused me, you owe me between $800,000 and a million dollars to settle this!”
“I can’t pay that!” the woman cried, feeling overwhelmed.
“I don’t care! Sell your house or do whatever it takes to get the money. If you don’t, you’ll regret it!” Jane threatened.
Dustin couldn’t take it anymore. “How can you be so shameless? You’re the one who backed into her car! How can you demand money from the victim?”
The crowd around them started to pay attention. They looked at the accident scene and saw that the BMW had indeed backed into the Honda. So, it was clear that the driver of the BMW was at fault, yet she was trying to blame the innocent driver instead.
“That’s nonsense! She hit my car!” Jane insisted, still aggressive. “So what if I reversed? She wasn’t paying attention! People like her don’t matter much anyway. Even if they died in an accident, they deserved it!”
The crowd gasped at her shocking words.
