An Understated Dominance - Chapter 250
“Mom! Are you okay?” Dakota rushed to help her mother up, feeling both scared and angry.
“Ouch! My teeth!” Jane cried out, pressing her hand against her face. Her mouth hurt after the slap.
“How dare you hit us? You’re finished! Your whole family is cursed! Be a man and face me! I’ll show you!” Dakota yelled as she started making calls for help. But Dustin focused on the young girl who was hurt, ignoring Dakota’s anger. Thanks to his magical needle, the girl’s condition got better quickly. Just then, the ambulance arrived.
“Your daughter is okay now, but her wound needs to be bandaged and cared for properly,” Dustin said as he placed the girl on a stretcher. The woman in white thanked him many times before leaving in the ambulance.
“You like playing the hero, don’t you? Just wait! You’ll regret it!” Jane and Dakota glared at him, clearly not going to let him off easy.
Dustin looked them over and said calmly, “Instead of wasting time on me, you both should go to the hospital. You look like you’re in bad shape. You seem to have low energy, and your eyes look lifeless. I’m afraid you might not have much time left.”
“Nonsense! You’re the one who’s in trouble! I’m fine!” Jane shot back at him.
He raised an eyebrow, amused. “Oh really? Have you been feeling dizzy and weak lately? And what about those nosebleeds?”
“How did you know?” Jane’s face fell slightly. She had been feeling unwell, and his words hit close to home. But she had gone to the hospital and they found nothing wrong, so she had dismissed it.
Jane felt a wave of panic wash over her.
“It’s nothing to worry about. Just a terminal illness,” he said casually.
“Terminal illness?” Jane’s face went pale. How could he say that without any concern?
“Mom, don’t listen to him! He’s just trying to scare you because he’s afraid of us!” Dakota jumped in to comfort Jane. “You take supplements all the time. You’re healthy! No one in good health would act like you’re sick!”
“Exactly! I’m perfectly healthy!” Jane nodded vigorously, her anger rising. “You jerk! Stop with your nonsense!”
“Based on what I see, you’ll be in serious trouble in three days. You’ll lose consciousness on the first day, cough up blood on the second, and be paralyzed on the third. And then, you’ll be facing death,” he said quietly.
Jane felt a knot in her stomach. Her heart raced, but she refused to show fear. “Do you think I’m scared? You’re just trying to bluff your way out of this!”
“Believe it or not, it’s your choice. Take care.” He showed no interest in arguing further and started to leave.
“Hey! Don’t just walk away!” Dakota was frustrated and rushed to stop him, but his intense glare made her hesitate. She stopped, realizing it wasn’t safe to push him.
“Let him go. He won’t get far. When our backup arrives, we’ll deal with him,” Jane said, a fierce look on her face.
As they spoke, a few black SUVs pulled up to the intersection. The doors opened to reveal Florence and…
James and Florence walked over to Jane and Dakota.
“Wow! Jane! Dakota! What happened?” Florence asked, trying to sound friendly. Henry Nicholson was part of the Nicholson family from Glenstead. He had run away to Swinton with his love because he didn’t want to go through an arranged marriage. The two families rarely spoke to each other. After the death of the Glenstead family leader, Edgar Nicholson, Jane and Dakota were sent to Swinton to talk to Henry, following Edgar’s last wish for Henry to return home.
“Hmph! How dare you ask us?” Jane said, looking pale. “We traveled all the way to your small town, and instead of welcoming us, you made us feel embarrassed! It seems like your family doesn’t want to reunite with us in Glenstead!”
Florence, James, and their friends were shocked. They knew how important it was for the Nicholson family of Swinton to reconnect with the Glenstead branch; it would raise their status, and they didn’t want to miss this chance.
“Jane, please calm down. Just let us know what you need, and I promise I’ll help!” Florence said quickly, forcing a smile.
James added confidently, “Exactly! We’ll take care of whoever hurt you, no matter who they are!”
Dakota frowned. “What good is that? He’s already gone!” She was only in Swinton because her grandfather had ordered her to help with this task.
“It’s okay! There’s a surveillance camera at the intersection. I’ll have someone check the footage right away so we can find the person responsible!” Florence assured them.
“Hmph! That’s more like it,” Jane replied, feeling a bit better.
Dakota’s expression softened as she added, “Oh, and please get the best doctor for me.”
“Are you hurt, Dakota?” James asked, looking shocked. He glanced at her but didn’t see any tears or visible injuries.
“That’s ridiculous! Can’t you see I’m bleeding from my elbow? Are you blind?” Dakota scoffed, showing everyone the scrape on her elbow. When they looked closer, they realized her “injury” was just a small cut that only needed a band-aid.
“Why are you standing there? Get the car and take Dakota to the hospital! I’ll be really upset if you miss the golden hour!” Florence exclaimed.
Florence quickly slapped James on the back of his head. Jane Engleton and Dakota Nicholson had the final say on whether Florence’s family could reunite with their Glenstead relatives, so she made sure to treat them with great respect.
“Okay,” James replied, not wanting to argue. Along with a few other relatives, he helped Jane and Dakota into the SUVs as if they were royalty. Then, they rushed the two women to the hospital.
