An Understated Dominance - Chapter 273
“I don’t need it,” Dustin said, firmly turning down Dakota’s offer.
“You don’t need it?” Dakota was shocked. She never imagined that in such a critical moment, Dustin would refuse her help. Did he really want to give up on life?
“Dustin, don’t make decisions based on your feelings!” Dahlia urged, gripping his sleeve. “I don’t care what crime you committed. Your life matters. The Nicholson family has military connections; only they can save you now!”
“They can’t save me, and I don’t want their help,” Dustin replied, shaking his head. He recognized the license plates and flags of the troop—they were from the Balerno Military. The people in Glanstead wouldn’t be able to help him. Besides, Edwin had worked hard to send such a large troop after him. There was no way he would let Dustin escape.
“Honestly! You’re on the edge of death, and you’re still so stubborn!” Dakota scoffed, sticking out her chin. “You clearly don’t understand how serious this is. Without the Nicholsons, you’ll be stuck in there forever!”
“Dustin, please! Just agree to her terms!” Dahlia begged, her worry evident.
A regular person couldn’t stand up to a military officer. High-ranking officers had the power to easily crush civilians. With a single command, they could make someone disappear.
“You don’t need to worry about me. I’m just going in for a cup of tea. I’ll be out soon, so you should head home,” Dustin said with a faint smile. He knew that the military deserved some respect for coming all this way.
“Enough talking! Take him away!” the commander shouted, clearly losing his patience. He ordered his men to cuff Dustin and shove him into the car.
Then, with a group of guards following, they…
Dahlia felt a rush of anxiety as the plan unfolded smoothly. Everyone was moving quickly, and no one was wasting time. But she felt helpless; her connections couldn’t reach the high-ranking military officials needed to save Dustin. Suddenly, an idea struck her. She turned to Dakota and pleaded, “Dakota, you have a lot of connections. Can you help Dustin and get him out?”
Dakota crossed her arms and replied, “I already offered him help, but he refused. It’s not my problem!”
Dahlia quickly changed her approach. “Even if you don’t care about Dustin, think about your mother,” she urged.
Dakota frowned. She didn’t care much for Dustin’s fate, but her mother was sick with a terminal illness, just as Dustin had said. If Dustin died, wouldn’t that put her mother at greater risk?
“Will he really help my mother if I save him?” Dakota asked, unsure.
“I promise he will!” Dahlia insisted, looking serious.
“Okay, I’ll trust you this time,” Dakota replied, nodding. She pulled out her phone and began reaching out to her contacts.
Some of her relatives were in the military, so she knew this favor wouldn’t be a problem.
Meanwhile, Natasha was relaxed on a lounge chair at the Peaceful Medical Center, sipping her tea like the confident owner she was. Suddenly, Ruth rushed into the room, breathless and anxious. “Natasha, something happened!”
