An Understated Dominance - Chapter 281
Adjutant General Damon walked up to General Jenkins and, without saying a word, slapped him hard across the face.
General Jenkins was stunned. He took a moment to gather himself. He had greeted Adjutant General Damon with a smile, but this unexpected slap felt like a serious insult.
“What was that for?!” General Jenkins exclaimed, his expression darkening. He glared at Damon, feeling humiliated. Just because Damon was Christopher’s adjutant general didn’t give him the right to treat Jenkins this way. After all, Jenkins had the support of Chief General Spanner, who outranked Christopher.
“That slap was a lesson,” Damon replied coolly. “You shouldn’t have arrested Mr. Rhys. Release him now, or you’ll face the consequences.”
“Are you threatening me?” Jenkins scoffed. “Damon, you’re just an old general’s lackey. What authority do you have over me?”
“I may not have the authority, but the general does. If you want to avoid trouble, do as I say,” Damon said, his face expressionless.
“Don’t use the general’s name to intimidate me!” Jenkins shot back angrily. “The person I arrested is guilty of a serious crime, and I have proof. You can’t just demand his release!”
If Adjutant General Damon had approached him more politely, Jenkins might have considered letting Dustin go out of respect for Christopher. But slapping him had crossed a line.
“General Jenkins, I warned you. If you stay stubborn, no one will be able to help you,” Damon cautioned.
“Do you think I’m afraid?” Jenkins said, glaring back. “I am Chief General Spanner’s subordinate, after all.”
shouted, “What do you think you’re doing, Damon?!”
Adjutant General Damon looked calm as he replied, “I’m here to make sure you release Dustin.”
“Not a chance! Not even if God himself asked me!” General Jenkins yelled back.
“Fine! Just remember, you may regret this!” Damon turned and walked to his car, leaving Jenkins behind in a cloud of exhaust.
“Damn that guy! How dare he act so superior?” Jenkins muttered, spitting on the ground and rubbing his sore cheek.
He felt like he was having the worst day ever. First, Bloodbeast had slapped him, and now he had to deal with Damon. Everything felt off.
“What’s wrong?” Jade asked as she approached.
“Don’t ask. A crazy guy from the Murray family just tried to get me to release Dustin,” Jenkins replied, clearly annoyed.
“Seriously? Does that punk really have connections to the Murrays?” Jade frowned.
“Who cares? The Grant family is just as powerful as the Murrays. We shouldn’t be scared of them!” Jenkins snapped.
“Good point,” Jade agreed. Just then, they noticed a large motorcade approaching from down the road.
The vehicles were decorated with the Murray family flags, and dozens of military trucks filled with soldiers drove in, quickly blocking the entrance to the base. As the trucks stopped, over three hundred armed soldiers jumped out, all focusing their attention on General Jenkins.
The atmosphere grew tense, as if a fight could break out at any moment.
“Damon, what are you doing?!” General Jenkins shouted again, seeing Adjutant General Damon leading the soldiers.
General Jenkins was furious. “How dare you bring so many people to invade my base? Are you trying to start a rebellion?”
Adjutant General Damon replied calmly, “I’m just following my general’s orders to take your hostage. If you won’t hand him over, I’ll have to take him by force.”
Jenkins couldn’t believe it. “The nerve! I serve Chief General Spanner. Is the Murray family declaring war on him?”
Damon shrugged. “I’m just doing my job. What happens next doesn’t matter to me.”
Jenkins realized there was no room for negotiation. “Alright then! Let’s see who has the bigger army!” he shouted loudly.
In an instant, a wave of soldiers poured out of the base.
