An Understated Dominance - Chapter 303
Even after getting back to the medical center, Dustin couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that Dahlia had left him with. He was shocked that she would play with his feelings just to get back at him.
They could have ended things on good terms, but instead, she chose to turn them into enemies. Dustin couldn’t figure out why. He racked his brain, convinced he had never done anything wrong to her.
“Dustin, are you okay?” Maximus asked as he walked in from the living room. “Let me know if you need my help.”
The treatment from the past few days had healed Dustin’s core. He might not be as strong as he once was, but he was grateful for the improvement.
“Want to drink with me?” Dustin rummaged through the cabinets until he found two bottles of wine. With Gregory around, there was always plenty of alcohol.
“Sure.” Maximus sat down without hesitation.
As they started drinking, the silence between them grew uncomfortable.
After a few glasses, Dustin broke the silence. “How’s your injury?”
“It’s healing well. I’ll be good in another two days,” Maximus replied, his gratitude evident. “I owe it all to you. I’d be in trouble without your help.”
“Stop being so formal. It sounds strange. Just talk to me normally,” Dustin said as he filled their glasses again.
“I-I can’t do that. I’ll keep talking like this,” Maximus said with a shy grin.
“Do what you want,” Dustin said, tilting his head back to finish his drink.
“Are you having relationship issues?” Maximus asked, also finishing his drink.
“How did you know?” Dustin raised an eyebrow.
“It’s easy to see when you’re going through something similar,” Maximus replied with a sad smile. What could be worse than…
Dustin was feeling overwhelmed. He couldn’t believe his fiancée was sleeping with his mentor. “That’s true,” he said quietly, beginning to calm down as he thought about everything his mentor had been through. He needed to talk, so he opened up to Maximus.
“Did I marry the wrong person to end up like this?” Dustin asked with a sad smile.
Maximus paused before replying. “I see it differently, Dustin. Have you considered that Ms. Nicholson might not have had a choice?”
“Couldn’t she have told me what was going on?” Dustin shook his head, frustrated.
“She probably would if she could,” Maximus said with a sigh. “You were married to her for three years. You should know her better than anyone. Do you really think she’s the type to cheat?”
Dustin hesitated for a moment, then replied, “People can change. Just because she wasn’t like that before doesn’t mean she won’t be in the future. It’s hard to know what’s going on in someone’s mind.”
“Take it easy, Dustin. Time will reveal everything,” Maximus reassured him.
“Let’s stop talking about this. Let’s drink!” Dustin declared as he pulled out two more bottles of wine, ready to enjoy the night.
Just then, a black car pulled up outside, and a man in a suit walked into the building. “Who is Dustin Rhys?” he asked.
