An Understated Dominance - Chapter 308
Abby huffed in annoyance. “Stop pretending you know anything!” She rolled her eyes. “We’ll find out who’s better soon enough!”
The man from earlier spoke up. “Even if Dustin doesn’t win against Tatum, he’s still a rare genius, and we should respect him.”
“You’re right. Just getting Tatum to challenge him to a duel is impressive. Boulderthorn wouldn’t have put in so much effort otherwise,” another added.
“I heard he’s only about twenty. It’s very rare for someone that age to reach such a high level. He’s practically a genius!” someone remarked.
“Even if he loses to Tatum, it will still be an honorable defeat,” another person chimed in.
Everyone started sharing their thoughts. While they believed Dustin would lose to Tatum, they still recognized his talents.
“I heard Dustin doesn’t have a guild and is self-taught. He’ll shine if he joins Ironshade!” one person said.
Another laughed. “Ironshade has only about a hundred disciples. A talent like him would be wasted there.”
Someone else nodded in agreement. “Highfield is definitely better for size and growth. I’m sure Dustin wouldn’t turn down my offer.”
“Hey, are you all forgetting about Steel Legion?” Abby shouted, clearly upset. “My guild is the best! If Dustin wants to pick a guild, he’d obviously choose us!”
Dustin was confused. He couldn’t understand why Abby was so confident when she didn’t even know who he was. It was even worse that Ralph seemed to share her belief, judging by his smug expression.
Just then, a group of Boulderthorn disciples walked over, led by Brody and Oliver Williams.
“Well, well. If it isn’t Max,” Brody sneered when he saw them.
Maximus glared at Brody. “What are you doing here, you useless man?”
“That’s none of your business,” Maximus shot back, his voice cold.
“We’re equals, Max. Even though you’ve lost all your powers, I won’t turn you away. For Caitlyn’s sake, I can help you return to being my father’s disciple if you beg,” Brody said with a sneer, putting his arm around the delicate woman next to him.
Maximus’s expression darkened when he saw who it was: Caitlyn Lawler, his fiancée. She had once been with his mentor, but now she was in Brody’s arms.
“Oh, I forgot to mention. Caitlyn has agreed to marry me. She’s mine now. Hope that doesn’t bother you,” Brody taunted.
“What?!” Maximus’s eyes widened in shock, and his fists clenched tightly. “Is that true, Caitlyn?”
“Don’t blame me, Max. I’m just a weak woman who needs protection. Now that you’ve lost your powers, I have to rely on Brody,” Caitlyn said frankly.
“Why? WHY?” Maximus’s eyes filled with anger and hurt. “You promised to wait for me! We were supposed to be together forever. Why would you marry him?”
“Are you really that clueless, Max?” Caitlyn rolled her eyes. “You don’t think I actually like you, do you? I like power. Power to control others. I only agreed to marry you back then because you were the most talented disciple. Look at you now! You’ve been kicked out and lost everything. Without power, what makes you think you’re worthy of me? Should I suffer because of you? Don’t be ridiculous!”
