An Understated Dominance - Chapter 342
The Langfords were said to have two expert martial artists working for them. They were a strong team and usually kept to themselves. Today, however, they had come with Ethan.
Adam rubbed his chin, plotting his revenge. Taking down the Langfords wouldn’t be easy with those two around.
“Hmph, what’s so impressive about the God of War? He still can’t do anything against the Langfords with Uncle Ethan here,” Luis thought to himself, a hint of arrogance on his face.
“Just as expected from Ethan!” Kingston said, holding his head high, regaining his confidence.
The Spanner family was powerful, but the Langfords were no pushovers. With Ethan present, the Langfords would be even more fierce.
Adam turned to Dustin and asked, “Dustin, it looks like they won’t let me have my way. Should we push through?”
If Dustin agreed, Adam would strike right away, knowing someone else would handle the consequences.
“Since Mr. Ethan is here, let’s forget it,” Dustin replied calmly.
He wasn’t afraid of the Langfords, but he didn’t want to create trouble for Adam.
“Alright, it’s your call,” Adam said with a shrug.
“Make sure to discipline your nephew, Mr. Ethan. If this happens again, I won’t let it slide,” Dustin warned firmly before walking away.
“Hold on!” Ethan said, his face darkening.
“Do you really think you can just walk away after hurting my nephew and embarrassing the Langfords? What do you think we are?”
“Exactly! You need to pay for what you did!” Luis added angrily, eager to settle the score with Dustin.
“Ethan, I’m holding back because I respect you. Don’t push your luck!” Adam glared, filled with hostility.
“Adam, this is about the Langford family’s reputation. I can’t just ignore it! I can spare his life for you, but he needs to get down on his knees and apologize to my nephew!” Ethan stood firm.
Wealthy families placed a high value on their reputations. If the Langfords let this slide, it would show everyone that they could be easily disrespected.
“Kneel down and apologize!” Luis looked down at Dustin with disdain.
“So what if you have Adam on your side? I can still crush you!” Luis thought to himself, feeling superior.
“Apologize to you? Are you even worth it?” Dustin remained calm, ignoring their demands.
Ethan, on the other hand, held a significant position and had considerable power, much like Adam. Even Adam had to show Ethan a level of respect due to his seniority.
With Ethan present, it was difficult for Adam to push his agenda.
“Oh, Mr. Ethan! I didn’t expect to see you here,” Adam said, surprised.
“Today is my nephew’s engagement ceremony. As his elder, it’s only right for me to attend,” Ethan replied coolly. “Fortunately, I arrived in time, or the Langfords would have been at the mercy of others.”
“Mr. Ethan, they were the ones being arrogant. I was just trying to help you teach them a lesson,” Adam said with a forced smile.
“Hmph! Even if they made a mistake, you, an outsider, have no right to punish them!” Ethan’s expression was icy.
“What if I insist on doing it?” Adam raised an eyebrow defiantly.
“Well, then we’ll see if you can back up your words,” Ethan said, waving his hand dismissively.
Just then, two older men appeared behind Ethan. One was taller than the other, and their strong presence made it clear that they were very powerful.
Seeing them, even Adam felt a chill run down his spine.
Chapter 342
Adam frowned as he thought about the situation. The Langfords had two master-level martial artists on their side, making them a formidable force. Normally, these fighters would stay hidden, but today they had come out with Ethan.
Adam rubbed his chin, plotting how to get revenge. Taking down the Langfords would be tough with the two powerful fighters around.
“Hmph, what’s so special about the God of War? He can’t do anything against the Langfords with Uncle Ethan here,” Luis grumbled to himself, a look of arrogance on his face.
“Just like I expected from Ethan!” Kingston said with renewed confidence, holding his head high. Even though the Spanner family was strong, the Langfords were no pushovers. With Ethan present, the Langfords would be even more aggressive.
Adam turned to Dustin and asked, “It looks like they’re not going to let me have my way. Should we force our way through?”
If Dustin agreed, Adam was ready to strike, knowing someone else would handle the aftermath.
“Since Mr. Ethan is here, let’s forget it,” Dustin replied flatly. He wasn’t scared of the Langfords, but he didn’t want to create trouble for Adam.
“Alright, whatever you say,” Adam shrugged, conceding to Dustin’s wishes.
“Mr. Ethan, you need to discipline your nephew properly. If this happens again, I won’t let it slide,” Dustin warned firmly before turning to leave.
“Stop right there!” Ethan’s face darkened. “Do you really think you can walk away after beating up my nephew and humiliating the Langfords? What do you think we are?”
“Exactly! You have to pay for what you did!” Luis chimed in, eager to settle the score with Dustin.
“Ethan, I’m holding back out of respect for you. Don’t push your luck!”
Adam’s eyes were filled with anger.
“Adam, this is about the Langford family’s reputation. I can’t just ignore it! I can spare his life for you, but he must get down on his knees and apologize to my nephew!” Ethan stood his ground.
Wealthy families cared deeply about their image. If the Langfords let this go, it would show that anyone could treat them poorly.
“Kneel and apologize!” Luis looked down at Dustin with contempt.
“So what if you have Adam backing you? I can still crush you!” Luis thought to himself, mocking Dustin.
“Kneel before you? Do you think you’re worthy of that?” Dustin remained unfazed by their demands.
“Hmph! Don’t think you can act tough just because the Spanner family supports you. The world is bigger than you realize,” Ethan warned coldly.
With the power of the Langford family, getting rid of someone was easy for them.
“Ethan, listen to me. You can’t afford to offend my friend. Don’t get yourself into trouble. If you cross him, it will be too late to ask for mercy,” Adam warned.
“What a joke!” Ethan scoffed. “Since when did you become so arrogant, Adam? No one in Stonia can stand against me!”
The people he feared were far away.
“Ethan, are you sure about this?” Adam raised an eyebrow.
“I’m going to take this punk down today. You’d better stay out of it!” With a snap of his fingers, Ethan signaled the skilled fighters of the Langford family to draw their swords and surround Dustin, ready for a fight.
“Ethan isn’t showing any respect for Adam. It looks like the punk is done for today!” someone whispered.
“Not even the Emperor can save him for insulting the Langfords!” another person said.
“This is the end for him.”
The guests sighed as they witnessed the scene unfolding before them. Dustin’s forces were indeed impressive, but they seemed insignificant next to Ethan.
“Rhys! Weren’t you acting tough earlier? Why are you quiet now? The Langford family has a strong reputation. Even if you have the Emperor’s support today, you still need to show us respect! If Uncle Ethan orders you to die, you’ll have to do it!” Luis laughed arrogantly.
In Ethan’s presence, Luis was just a loud rooster crowing in its own little world.
“Oh? Who is asking my son to die?” a calm voice interrupted.
Everyone turned to see a thin, middle-aged man limping toward them. He looked ordinary, dressed plainly, and had a slight hunch. If he walked through a crowd, no one would pay him any mind.
Yet, this unremarkable man made Ethan’s face go pale. His eyes were filled with shock and fear.
“H-how can this be? No, it’s impossible! He stays in the military camp all year. How can he be here?” Panic gripped Ethan.
The moment he laid eyes on the hunchbacked man, it felt like he had seen a ghost. His fingers trembled, and sweat broke out on his forehead.
“What’s wrong, Ethan? Do you know this person?” Kingston, standing nearby, noticed something was off.
“H-he… He is Rufus Rhys!” Ethan’s voice shook.
That revelation hit Kingston like a lightning bolt. His face turned ghostly pale at once.
“What?! Rufus Rhys?”
