An Understated Dominance - Chapter 367
“He should have left a long time ago. If he stays here, he’ll just cause us trouble,” Dustin said coldly.
“Before your father left, he asked me to convince you to return to the Rhys family. I refused,” Gregory said as he sat down and poured himself a cup of tea.
“I told him that the Rhys household is a dangerous place. I’d rather see you living your life and doing what you love out here than getting caught up in their power struggles and lies. To my surprise, he agreed. He said he just wants you to be happy, and that the Rhys family will always support you. His only wish is for you to visit your mother’s grave to show her respect.”
Dustin stood frozen when he heard that. A sharp pain struck his chest, right above his heart. He reached up and touched the crystal necklace his mother had left him.
Taking a deep breath, he said, “I’ll go back. But not yet. The day the murderer pays for what he did will be the day I return!”
How could he visit his mother’s grave knowing that her death had not yet been avenged?
“Alright, I’ve said what I needed to say. The choice is yours now,” Gregory replied before finishing his tea and heading upstairs to go back to bed. Dustin, meanwhile, sat in his chair, lost in thoughts about his revenge plan.
“What are you thinking about?” Dahlia walked in and waved her hand in front of Dustin’s face.
“Hey, when did you come in?” he asked, surprised to see her.
“You didn’t even notice me? What’s got you so distracted? Are you thinking about me, or is it Natasha?” Dahlia asked curiously.
“Neither,” Dustin shook his head. He knew better than to answer that tricky question. “Oh? Is it…”
“Is there someone else on your mind?” Dahlia asked, looking at Dustin with curiosity.
“Of course not!” Dustin laughed at her question.
He quickly shifted the conversation. “Did you come all the way here this early just to ask me that?”
“Ha! Do you think I have nothing better to do?” Dahlia rolled her eyes. “I’m here to share some great news! The Nicholson family in Glenstead has accepted us back! We’ll be part of the family again! From now on, we’ll be associated with a prestigious name!”
“Oh really? That’s fantastic! Congratulations!” Dustin chuckled.
“That’s not all!” Dahlia beamed with pride. “Not only have we been welcomed back, but the head of the family, Regulus Nicholson, has named me as a potential successor! I have a shot at becoming the future leader of the household, competing against his other children!”
“So you’re saying that if you do well, you could become the head of a prominent family?” Dustin quickly put the pieces together.
“Exactly!” Dahlia snapped her fingers and giggled with excitement. “So many people dream of being named as potential successors. I never thought the patriarch would choose me! What a wonderful surprise!”
Honestly, she hadn’t expected to be reunited with the Nicholson family. She knew that even if she returned, she might not be fully recognized or appreciated since she wasn’t part of the direct line.
But now, being named as a potential successor changed everything. It elevated her status compared to other descendants who weren’t on the list. This was a big deal.
This was Dahlia’s one chance to take control of her life and escape her family’s oppression. All she had to do was prove herself and defeat her rivals. If she succeeded, she would become the successor and rise above them all.
“Congratulations! It looks like the patriarch really values your family!” Dustin said with a smile.
“Of course!” Dahlia replied, lifting her chin with confidence. “Now that this opportunity has come up, you better start flattering me. You’ll regret it if you don’t when I become the successor!”
