-If Liberty hadn’t intervened, Shiloh would still be alive.
Although multiple factors contributed to Shiloh’s death, Marco felt unable to confront his mother or Kathryn and thus took out his frustrations on Liberty.
While Liberty had support from the Yorks, Lewiss, and Stones, all of them were based in Wiltspoon. Since this event took place in Jensburg, Marco believed he could act without fear of repercussions as long as he didn’t draw too much attention.
Kathryn was oblivious to Marco’s thoughts. After exiting the office building and getting into her car, she received the investigation results from Pedro.
Upon reading the findings, she remained unperturbed, driving calmly as she left the company.
A few minutes later, Pedro called her.
Kathryn pulled over before answering his call.
“Miss, Miss Hunt was struck by two cars. It was the eldest young master’s doing.”
The investigation results Pedro provided were more than enough to confirm that Marco orchestrated the incident.
“I reviewed the investigation results and suspected it was him,” Kathryn remarked. “He’s completely out of his mind. Who would plan something like that? One car would suffice for an accident, but he was so afraid of making a mistake that he used two—one in front and one behind. Does he really think Liberty is a fool?”
She found Marco’s behavior baffling.
Given Marco’s abilities and intellect, how could he entertain such ambitions and secretly aspire to be head of the family?
“I’m going to see Liberty now. Liberty also suspects him, and I believe she has initiated her own investigation. Mr. Kevin and Miss Hayden will be back from vacation soon.”
Kevin had taken Hayden on vacation, leaving Hugh in charge of Queen Enterprise temporarily.
Pedro sensed Kathryn’s concern that Kevin might return and confront her, so he tried to reassure her by saying,
Kathryn remarked, “Even if Mr. York and Ms. Queen return, they won’t be able to take action. It wasn’t you who caused this.”
She continued, “I’m not concerned. My collaboration with Queen Enterprise is still pending. Hugh is quite busy, and we haven’t reached an agreement yet.”
Pedro smiled and reassured her, “Everything will work out; don’t worry, Miss. They should be back within the next two days.”
“Please check on Noel and Sage to see if they are plotting against me. Also, keep an eye on a few aunts in the clan who frequently share information with Liberty privately,” she instructed.
Pedro nodded respectfully, “Of course.”
After a brief pause, he asked, “Miss, what are your thoughts on Miss Hunt?”
Kathryn replied, “What is there to think? I’m attracted to men, not women.”
Pedro clarified, “That’s not what I meant, Miss.” He secretly hoped Kathryn wouldn’t develop feelings for women, as he desired to be in a loving relationship with her.
Kathryn smiled and explained, “Liberty and I are rivals—almost enemies—but we still hold a level of mutual respect. I’m aware that those aunts have already sided with Liberty, but I haven’t informed my mother about it.”
She feared that if Clarissa learned of their betrayal, those aunts and their families might meet with fatal accidents. Clarissa would not tolerate treachery. Although many in the clan were displeased with her, they feared her methods and remained silent in their dissatisfaction.
The primary reason was that they couldn’t find new allies to support them. Only after Liberty’s arrival did they feel as though they had someone they could trust.
She could always rely on that.
After all, Liberty was the heir of the former head of the family and had the backing of several affluent families.
Even the Queen family from Jensburg stood by Liberty and offered their support.
“If I weren’t my mom’s only daughter, I would genuinely want to be friends with Liberty. We get along really well,” Kathryn remarked, a hint of regret evident in her voice.
If she had another sister, she wouldn’t feel the pressure to be the successor. She could pursue her own interests and form the friendships she desired.
