Clarissa was still alive, and she refused to let her sisters’ deaths be in vain.

Placing one cup of warm water in front of Kathryn, Clarissa sat down with her own cup and said, “Your throat must be dry after all that talking. Please, have a drink.”
Kathryn was indeed thirsty. She picked up the glass, took a sip, and immediately sensed something was off about the water.

“Kathryn, you are my biological daughter. Even though you didn’t grow up with me, you are still my only daughter. We may not see eye to eye, and even if you secretly communicate with Liberty behind my back, if you weren’t my biological child, you and Liberty would likely be the best of friends.
You have betrayed me in many ways, but I won’t hold it against you. After all, you are my daughter. I could even harm Shiloh since she isn’t my biological child. I will always have a soft spot for you.”
Clarissa murmured to herself, “I need a successor. I can’t be without one. I refuse to lose to my eldest sister. She has always been superior in every way. She raised me, and I have witnessed her greatness. But I cannot accept it. I won’t resign myself to it… For decades, I have failed to prove that I am better than her. Look at Audrey, her eldest daughter; she is truly exceptional, and her granddaughters are equally remarkable. Even her grandchildren surpass your brothers. Clive could take on your three brothers single-handedly.”
Clarissa’s eyes reddened as tears welled up.
Tears welled up inside her. She wasn’t sure if she was recalling memories of her sisters or something else entirely. Slowly, her tears began to fall, drop by drop, landing softly on Kathryn’s face.
